Weekly Update 9/13/24
Dear Lancaster High School Eagle Families
Good afternoon Eagle Parents and Students,
First off, what a amazing Back-to-School Night!!! We hope you enjoyed it as much as our students did putting it on!
As we enter in to our first week where the temperature will start cooling, we plan to keep the campus heated up with activities! We have Homecoming on the horizon (Oct. 18th), which is our next home game (we begin the season with 4 away games), we look to create a fun and supportive environment to celebrate the hard work our Eagles are doing in the classroom. Be on the look out this Monday as parameters will be set for our student's ability to attend our major events upcoming. In short, students need to show a pattern of positive behavior in school and consistently be where they are supposed to be on campus.
Upcoming Dates and Deadlines
- Tuesday, September 17th, we will be having an ID Sweep. Students MUST HAVE THEIR IDs to enter our campus. Students without IDs need to approach the ID Sweep table to have identification verified and to get their ID replaced.
- Monday September 23rd - Before-School-Tutoring begins (see info below)
- Next week, Wednesday, Sept. 18th, we will have our first lockdown drill. This drill will be in the morning sometime and a message will go out immediately noting the drill as it begins.
- October 15th and October 26 - Yearbook deadlines for student pic submissions and baby pics (see info below)
- October 31st - Senior portraits deadline for yearbook (see info below)
Have a wonderful weekend, Eagles!
Sincerely,
Your Principal, Zach Mercier
Fall Survey Feedback Request
After such a positive and energetic Back-to-School Night and the calendar settling in... I am coming to you all with a favor to assist us in better serving you, our Eagle Family.
As we continue to strive for excellence in education and a positive school environment, we value your input and perspective. In order to better serve our community and make informed improvements, we are humbly requesting your participation in our Fall Climate Survey. Your feedback will help guide our efforts to ensure that Lancaster High remains a supportive and enriching place for all. This 3 minute survey gives us such valuable feedback, I can not stress its importance enough. We look forward to affirmations where we are doing well and feedback where we can improve.

In just two years, such changes as increased opportunity for credit recovery, a focus on the security of our bathrooms, increase of hands-on courses, and affirmation and continuation of support for our activities on campus have all happened because of your voice.
Before-School Tutoring Begins Monday Sept. 23rd
Our before school tutoring begins Monday, September 23rd at 7:45am.
We have tutoring for most subjects daily, including Math, Bio, Chem, Spanish, ESS, English Language, and general tutoring. Each day there will be 8 tutors!
Tutoring will have a check in-check out system so parents, teachers, and coaches may monitor their student's attendance (some teacher's allow extra credit for tutoring). Space is limited each morning, so make sure your student is on time and goes directly to the library for tutoring.

Lunch Deliveries
As always, safety and security is a top priority across the Antelope Valley Union High School District. It is with this in mind that we will not be able to allow students and/or parents/guardians to place food orders for delivery to our schools during the school day.
This practice not only causes a disruption to the school environment but also poses a potential security threat. As such, beginning immediately school staff will not accept any food deliveries, nor will delivery personnel be allowed onto our campuses. If your student does not bring a meal or snack, there are no-cost healthy options available in the cafeteria every day.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and your cooperation in keeping our school safe and secure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Santoyo at asantoyo@avhsd.org
Dress Code
We need your help!
Specifically, I want to bring up the two most common dress code violations: tube tops and shirts with drug/alcohol references ("Cookies" is the most common violation). These are strictly not allowed per our district dress code. There is more to our dress code, but we are noticing these items are being worn more than usual.
A point of reflection when deciding if something is or is not against dress code is this, if your student is wearing something and is wondering if it is in or out of dress code, don't wear it. Please use common sense and be prepared (have another shirt in your bag for example) if you are unsure.
Trust me, NOBODY likes to stop students for dress code. Our goal is to be the preparatory institution that prepares your student for both college and career. A part of career preparation is wearing proper attire. Please help us by monitoring your own student's dress. Thank you for listening to my thoughts and have a wonderful evening.
