World Read Aloud Day 📚
LitWorld founded World Read Aloud Day® (WRAD) in 2010 to celebrate the power of reading aloud to create community and amplify new stories, and to advocate for literacy as a foundational human right. Since then, WRAD has evolved into a global movement of millions of readers, writers, and listeners from across the world coming together to honor the joy and power of reading and continue expanding the definition and scope of global literacy. World Read Aloud Day will be celebrated on February 5th, 2025 this year.
National Caregivers Day 💕
National Caregivers Day is the third Friday in February and falls on Friday, February 21st this year. National Caregivers Day is a time to recognize and honor caregivers and their critical contributions to our families, communities and healthcare system. For caregivers themselves, this day serves as a reminder that their work matters and that they are not alone. It is a chance to reflect on their achievements, connect with others who share similar experiences, and access resources that can help them thrive.
Rare Disease Day 🧫
Rare Disease Day is the globally-coordinated movement on rare diseases, working towards equity in social opportunity, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies for people living with a rare disease. Rare Disease Day is observed every year on 28 February (or 29 in leap years)—the rarest day of the year. This year’s campaign shines a spotlight on the power of resilience and connection featuring the stories of four families from Australia, Rwanda, Bulgaria, and Argentina, impacted by rare cancer, rare metabolic, genetic, and neurological conditions.
On Rare Disease Day, sport your gear that represents a rare disease to help raise awareness or rock your stripes or zebra-patterned clothing to show support for people with rare diseases.
February Social Emotional Learning Skill: Respect
Throughout the month of February, students will be learning about the importance of respecting others in their community. Students will begin by learning about what makes people different and how to be respectful of those differences. Students will then learn how to respect others in a school setting by learning how to work in a group, and how to participate in class. At the end of the month, students will learn what it means to be a good friend.

🩺 Reminders from the School Nurses
Please be mindful! If your student is sick, please keep them home. District protocol states:
A student must be fever free (without medication) for 24 hours before returning to school.
If a student is out for vomiting or diarrhea, they must be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.
- Don’t forget to talk with your school nurse if your student needs to take daily medication, emergency medication, has food or environmental allergies or requires treatments in school. Nurses will need parent permission forms, doctor written emergency action plans, and doctor’s orders. Remember any medication sent into school, needs to be in the original container with a pharmacy prescription label.
- Please send in an extra pair of clothes to keep in your student’s locker/classroom just in case it is needed for accidents or spills.
- Please fill out your STUDENT DATA CARDS and return to school. This is important to update your student’s health and your contact information. You can also give permission for Tylenol, Ibuprofen or Tums to be given as needed. This will come home with your student during the first month of school.
- Every year, vision and hearing screening is done on each student as part of Delaware State Regulations. Postural screening is done yearly from 5th grade through 9th grade. Screenings typically start at the end of September into October. If you have any concerns with screenings, please contact your school nurse.
- If your student requires use of glasses or a hearing aid, please send these in with your student to school every day. Vision and hearing are very important for your child to be successful in school.
- Dress for the weather! Be sure your student has a jacket, hat, and gloves on those cold winter days! If you do not have these items, please reach out to your nurse for help.
- SUNSCREEN: Please consider placing sunscreen on your child prior to coming to school during the warmer months when students may participate in outdoor activities.
- Some school have two nurses. Although Meadowood students are normally served by the first nurse listed, the secondary nurse might also be in contact with you about your child.
