There's No Place Like Home
Happy New Year and Welcome Back (again) for 2025!
We hope everyone stayed warm and enjoyed the winter weather last week. Now it's time for us to really start the second semester. The new year is a time to reestablish routines and adjust our course towards our goals. After reviewing your child's report card it's a great opportunity to celebrate their successes and talk about next steps for the school year. We are here to partner with you to help our kids achieve success.
Thank you for trusting us with your children and thank you for your partnership!

News You Can Use
Winter Weather Reminders (Repeated)
Here are some reminders that you may find beneficial when navigating the school day during what we Texans consider extreme weather conditions. 🥶
Arrival and Dismissal
If the weather is at or below freezing (32 degrees) we will NOT have safety patrol on duty and our staff will rotate between outside and inside duty stations.
- Please make sure your children are bundled up and ready to exit the vehicle when you arrive.
- Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes earlier than you usually do in the event that car loop takes a little longer.
- The office loop staff (who assist kids exiting their cars) need to enter the building at 7:38am.
- Kids should be in their classroom at 7:40am when the tardy bell rings.
Recess
Here is what our district says about winter weather recess:
Temp or Wind Chill around freezing (32 degrees)
- Keep students away from icy ground. If the temperature or wind chill falls into the 30s, outside recess should be limited to 15 minutes. Below freezing temperatures warrant inside recess.
Clothing
We have wonderful families who do a great job of providing our kids with cute and cozy jackets, gloves, or hats to keep them warm. Unfortunately, our kids often times misplace them throughout the day. This habit is most often observed when the winter weather rolls in.
Please consider the following:
- Labeling your child's clothing
- Remind them to check lost and found when their items are misplaced (or forgotten)
- Feel free to stop by our Lost and Found when you are on campus to identify lost items
- Encourage your kids to wear long pants in the winter. If the weather is hovering in the mid 30s, our kids are more likely to go out for recess and their preferred shorts don't always provide the best layer of protection. Their personal expression or tolerance may override this suggestion. ⛄
Our next ATTENDANCE SPIRIT WEEK will be February 18-21
Think-A-Palooza
Think-A-Palooza
Lakeside is so excited to participate in our first ever district-wide Thinkapalooza. Thanks to your awesome materials donations, we are all set to take off on a thrilling "Journey of the Mind!" On Friday, 1/17, PreK-5th grade students will engage in a variety of hands-on activities designed to push the limits of their imagination. From building and creating to problem-solving and critical thinking, students will be immersed in fun, interactive challenges that help them develop new skills, showcase their strengths, and create lasting memories. Don't forget to ask your child(ren) about this awesome day of exploration and learning!
