Weekly Update
Thalberg Elementary School 9/25/2020
From the desk of Mrs. Reeves:
The TES PTO has been very generous. They purchased a frozen treat for all the students as well as lanyards for our masks. Thank You PTO, for always taking care of us at Thalberg.
ABSENCES
If your child will be late to school or absent, please notify Mrs. Suess in the main office (jsuess@southingtonschools.org or 860-628-3370) along with your child's classroom teacher. Sometimes teachers are busy and do not check their messages before Mrs. Suess makes the call to your home.
JUST IN CASE
In order to prepare our students for remote learning or hybrid learning, in case we need it, teachers may be sending items home with your child. In the days to come, you will receive a math tool kit which should be kept at home. If your child is in Grade 2-5, you may see that their math workbook will be going back and forth to school. This is only for the purpose of having it available in case your child needs to stay home for any length of time. It is certainly hard to predict what each day will bring and we are doing our best to be prepared for whatever comes our way. While there are no plans right now to go to a hybrid model or a remote model, we have seen that this can happen quickly.
ARRIVAL/DISMISSAL
The arrival and dismissal procedures are working well. Thank you for your continued patience while waiting in line and adhering to the new rules. With traffic coming into Thalberg from the River Street side, it seems safer. Please continue to be careful when pulling out of the driveway. Thank you for having your placards ready and visible. Some drivers have put the placard on the passenger side visor and they flip the visor down as they approach Mrs. B at the corner. This allows her to see the number and color. Others have taped it to the bottom corner of the windshield. I love the creative thinking.
DISTRICT DEVICES
Thank you for filling out the survey to let me know your needs as a family for devices. Eventually all of the students will receive a Chromebook to use. These devices are scheduled to arrive in mid-October.
HEALTH SCREENINGS
The State of Connecticut requires schools to perform mandated screenings.
The screenings are:
Vision screening of students in grades K, 1, 3, 4, 5
Hearing screening of all students in K, 1, 3, 4, 5
Postural screening of students in grades 5, 7 girls and grade 8 boys
Parents or guardians will be informed in writing of any abnormality that is discovered at the time of screening. If a student for some reason does not participate in the screening without being excused, the school nurse will provide notification to parents or guardians of the reason the student did not receive the screening.
A student may be excused from any screening if they have this exam performed by their private physician. If your child will have the exam performed by a private physician, please notify the school nurse.
Please contact the school nurse if you have any questions regarding any of the required screenings.
News from the PTO
Dear Thalberg Families,
Greetings from the PTO. We hope that your children have had a great first week back to school! We wanted to remind all families that this year, the PTO has become completely virtual. Important school announcements, fundraisers and important information regarding Thalberg events can now be found on the Konstella app. We encourage all families to download this app so that everyone can be up to date on all communication regarding your child. This app is available on iphone and android devices.
Visit https://www.konstella.com/ and search for Thalberg Elementary School. Once your request to join is approved you will receive an email notification.
The PTO can invite you via email, if you prefer. Please send an email to thalbergcommunications@gmail.com and a direct link to join will be emailed to you.
We encourage that all families join by September 20th, as our class T Shirt/Spirit Wear Sales will be held online. All order forms will be sent via Konstella. You will receive a link that will connect you to an order form with pictures/prices for Class Shirts and Spiritwear. This year we will also have child/adult masks and water bottles with the Thalberg logo on it.
