BAKER'S CORNER
Dear Fire Prairie Families,
Lots of things going on these next two weeks of school - be sure to check the calendar and your Pack weekly newsletters as there are Pack tings going on as well.
A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for this week’s Science City and Planetarium field trips with the Shadow Wolves Pack! We truly appreciate your time, energy, and support in helping make this a memorable and enriching experience for our 6th grade students. Your involvement made it possible for our Timberwolves to explore science in action and spark their curiosity beyond the classroom. Thank you for being part of this adventure!
As we look forward to the exciting field trips coming up for both 5th and 6th grade, we want to remind families of our transportation policy:
- If a student is suspended from the bus at the time of a scheduled field trip, they will not be allowed to attend the trip.
A bus suspension applies to all school transportation—regardless of the reason for travel. Field trips are no exception. This policy is in place to ensure the safety of all students and staff, which remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and partnership in this matter.
Be sure to mark these dates on your calendar! Make-up days are now scheduled due to snow days. They are as follows:
- Friday, May 23 (was the last day of school and an early release day) - now a full day of school
- Monday, May 26 - No School/Memorial Day Holiday
- Tuesday, May 27 - full day of school/MAP Incentive GLOW Party!
- Wednesday, May 28 - full day of school/Platinum Parties
- Thursday, May 29 - last day of school/early release at 11:55 AM/School-wide Celebration!
Please, if you have any questions about these days, reach out.
Thank you for being an engaged adult in your student's educational journey! We appreciate all you are doing to help your student be success ready for school and life!
Be well. ~ Be safe. ~ Be kind!
Respectfully,
Dr. B

Parent News from the Health Room
As part of our commitment to keeping all students healthy, comfortable, and ready to learn, we want to share important information about head lice—a common issue in school-age children that is manageable with proper treatment and home care.
What Are Head Lice?
Head lice are small, wingless insects that live on the scalp. They are not dangerous and do not spread disease, but they can cause itching and discomfort. Lice are most commonly spread through direct head-to-head contact, not through poor hygiene or a dirty home.
What Can You Do at Home?
Here are a few key steps to help prevent and manage head lice:
Check your child’s scalp regularly, especially if they are scratching their head frequently.
If you find lice or nits (eggs), begin treatment right away. Over-the-counter shampoos are widely available, or your healthcare provider may recommend prescription treatments.
After treating, comb your child’s hair daily with a fine-tooth lice comb for at least 7–10 days to remove nits.
Do not share hair brushes, combs, hats, helmets, pillows, or other personal items that touch the head.
Wash all bedding, towels, and recently worn clothing in hot water and dry on high heat.
Vacuum floors, upholstered furniture, and car seats, especially where your child may have rested their head.
Items that cannot be washed (like stuffed animals or hair accessories) can be sealed in a plastic bag for at least 2 weeks to ensure any lice are killed.
Continue checking the hair of all family members and treat if lice or nits are found.
School Protocol
If live lice or nits are found, we will notify parents/guardians. In the case of live bugs, especially if there is evidence of an active infestation, it will be strongly recommended that treatment is started as soon as possible at home to help stop the spread and support the health and comfort of your child and others.
We understand the sensitive nature of the issue and want to assure you that we are maintaining confidentiality. We also want to encourage open communication between parents and the school. If your child has been treated for lice, please inform the health office. We are here to support you and can help guide you through treatment and prevention.
Thank you for your cooperation and ongoing support in this matter.
