Principal's Message
Dear Mata family,
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you for all your efforts in making our teachers feel valued and supported this week during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your thoughtful gestures, kind words, and all forms of appreciation have truly brightened the week and strengthened our community.
As we approach the end of the school year, I encourage you to read through our latest newsletter carefully. It contains crucial updates and details about the upcoming events that will take us through these busy weeks. Your attention to these updates will help ensure that your child and our school community make the most of the end of this school year.
Please note that the last day of school is scheduled for May 24 and will be an early release day at 1:00 PM. Marking your calendars will help in planning your schedules accordingly.

Orchestra News
Middle School Orchestra Concert-
Orchestra students in grades 6-8 will have their final performance on Thursday, May 9 at 6:00 pm in the Mata auditorium. Students should plan to arrive in the orchestra room at 5:00pm for tuning and line up. Dress Concert uniform: Solid black pants, shoes and socks, Solid white shirt. Ask your child for the green information sheet.
Elementary School Orchestra Concert –
4th and 5th grade orchestra students will present a concert at 5:45pm on Tuesday, May 14 in the auditorium just prior to the Talent show. Students should plan to arrive in the orchestra room at 5:00 pm for tuning and line up. Casual Concert Uniform: Mata shirt, jeans and athletic shoes. Ask your child for the blue information sheet.
Summer Strings Camp - June 3-7 at Bryan Adams HS. Cost is $20. See Flyer for more details. If you have any questions please contact Ms. Powers at JPowers@dallasisd.org

Mata Fun Run - May 11th
Join us May 11th for the Mata Fun Run! This year the theme is WALK AND ROLL and is a combo color run/rock and roll partyThis event is open to all and free to join, but registration is required. We are also selling optional Fun Run Packages for $20 that include a T-shirt, sunglasses, and more! The deadline to order the Fun Run package is Wednesday May 8th. Let's shower Mata's 8th grade class with goodies the last week of school! Sign up to “Adopt an 8th Grader,” and you will receive a list of an anonymous student's favorite things. Beach Bash - May 18th
We have a fun night planned on May 18th! Bring lawn chairs and blankets, come hang out with old friends and meet incoming families for 2024-2025 starting at 5pm. There will be a Dallas Arboretum STEM Table, sand art, games, paletas, concession stand, the Final General PTA Meeting, and Lilo and Stitch begins at sundown.

AVID Excel Summer Bridge for Rising 6th-, 7th-, and 8th Graders
AVID Excel is a dynamic college readiness program designed to change the trajectory of long-term Emergent Multilingual students by accelerating language acquisition and supporting students on the path to college preparatory coursework.
This four-day, in-person experience will focus on building English academic language skills, study habits, college readiness, and a strong foundation in the elements of the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Excel program. It will also include a field trip to a local college campus. This experience is free to students, and bus transportation will be available.
AVID Excel Summer Bridge will take place at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center on June 3-6, 2024, from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm.

Dallas ISD's Summer Breeze 2024
The Summer Breeze 2024 programming provides an array of exciting learning experiences that are designed to engage students in rigorous tasks that accelerate learning while improving social and emotional well-being.
For June and July, the District along with community partners will offer summer learning programming at designated campuses and locations. Program choices focus on Acceleration, Legislative Mandates, Enrichment, and College Readiness.
Over the last three years, thousands of students have participated in the district's Summer Breeze offerings. Participants demonstrated increased student achievement and overall exhibited a positive self-perception in social-emotional learning. Parents view programming as a valuable resource for the family and students have described experiences as fun and enjoyable.
Join us this summer and share in the district’s year-long commitment of engaging students in learning and providing opportunities for students to explore new interests.

Woodrow Wilson High School Mini Camp for K-5 Students
The dates for mini camp is June 10-14th from 9:00-12:00.
The location is at Woodrow Wilson High School
The grade levels are Kindergarten-to incoming 5th grade

Mind of an Innovator Camp
SMU partnership camp Mind of an Innovator. There are scholarships available to participate in this fantastic opportunity that includes lunch, snacks, a backpack, a water bottle, and a t-shirt for children who qualify for free/reduced lunch or CHIP/Medicaid.Parents can scan the QR code on the SMU flyer to apply for the scholarship. There were 20 scholarships available, and no one was turned away last year.
Parenting Classes for Support in Helping Children
Mental Health Services in partnership with Daybreak is holding free parent workshops on Youth Anxiety, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse. The sessions will be in English and Spanish. This is a great opportunity for parents to receive tools to support our youth.
