Student Attendance - Absent Notes
Here is the link for the Pennsylvania Compensatory Attendance Law. Consistent school attendance is not only crucial for academic achievement but also a legal requirement. Missing school can lead to significant learning gaps and impact your child’s overall progress.
Absence notes are required when your child is absent within 2 days of your child's return. Unexcused absences become truancies. Please send absent notes by email to HPES-attendance@upperdarbysd.org or you can send a written note to your child's teacher. Thank you!
ATTENDANCE and BEING ON TIME FOR SCHOOL IS IMPORTANT
• Too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.
• Absences & tardiness affect the entire classroom .
Attending school regularly, and being on time each day helps children feel better about school—and themselves.
Breakfast and Lunch Menus
You can access the menus on the district website at
Student Email & Chromebook Activity - SCHOOL RELATED ONLY- CHARGE EVERY NIGHT
The student chromebooks are school district property.
- Students must take their chromebooks home each day
- Chromebooks must be fully charged each night and brought to school each day
- Student chromebooks and student email accounts are for academic purposes and school communications only.
- Student email should not be used to create or access recreational accounts on other platforms, such as social media or gaming sites. Keeping the use of student email limited to school-related activities helps maintain a secure and focused learning environment.
- For more information about the acceptable use of the internet, computers and network resources, please click here.
Student Safety!
Please do not drop off your children to school before 8:30 AM. There is no adult supervision before 8:30AM so it is a serious safety concern!
5 Bs Always! Family & School partnership
Our 5Bs are reviewed each and every day-- Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Kind, and Be Royal! We are a partnership with our families and need these to be followed by everyone especially during arrival and dismissal.
We do our best to safely dismiss approximately 740 students each day. Please follow our directives and procedures and be kind to our staff. Be considerate of our neighbors, and their property. Do not double park on the local streets or park illegally during arrival and dismissal.
Also, dismissal is not the time to try to have a meeting or conference with a teacher. Please contact them via email to set up a meeting time.
Thank you!
SCHOOL SAFETY- A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY
Families, we need your help during arrival and dismissal. Safety first, and respect for the neighborhood. Donohue Funeral home and St. Laurence are private property , therefore there is no parking on their property. You must park in the neighborhood (do not double park and block the neighbors' cars) and walk to the pick up area or use the car line.
Plan ahead knowing that arrival and dismissal takes about 15- 20 minutes. Please plan accordingly so students are here on time and picked up on time. Car line families, cars will be directed to only make a right onto Lynn Blvd..
Students must only cross the street where the crosswalks are located. Do not pull over on West Chester Pike or Lynn Blvd. to pick up your child or cross the middle of the road with your child.
PLEASE...
- Do not park, drop off or pick up on West Chester Pike or on Lynn Blvd.
- Only enter the car line from West Chester Pike and stay to the left as directed.
- Do not enter through Lynn Blvd; it is one way from West Chester Pike only.
- Do not pull up on the curbs, especially on West Chester Pike and Lynn Blvd.
- Do not park at St. Laurence or Donohue Funeral Home. IT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY.
- Do not trespass on residents' property, especially the homes on Green Valley Road, and Academy Lane behind the school. There is parking available at the Observatory field.
- Remember that there is no supervision before 8:30 AM so please do not drop off your students before 8:30 AM. Teachers & staff day ends at 3:30 PM and at 3:15 PM on Fridays, so please pick up your students on time.
- You may have a short wait in car line, however, car line usually ends by 3:25 PM. If you don't want to wait, please make arrangements to meet your child off-site. The observatory field on St. Laurence Road has parking and is conveniently located.
- Remind your children to follow safe walking routes and to only cross at crosswalks. Families, we need you to follow this too!
- Lynn Blvd & West Chester Pike are heavily travelled so it is very important that everyone crosses at the crosswalks where there are crossing guards.
The safety of our students is a top priority for all of us.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

NO CELL PHONE USE during the school day, or on district busses
Students are not permitted to use cell phones during the school day, or on district busses, or district activities. Please have your students practice NOT using their cell phones for extended period of times during the day so they are prepared not to use them or have them out during the school day.
HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS
Homework is extremely important. It reinforces classroom lessons, promotes responsibility, and helps students develop essential study habits. Click on the link and view homework expectations for grades Kindergarten through five. You can also click on a link to our School Board adopted policy regarding homework. Your support in ensuring homework is completed on time will greatly benefit your child’s educational journey. During the first week of school your student (s) will learn how to access their homework through the various resources we have available to them.
