Dear Families,
Information night - Again it was so lovely that so many of you could come to see your child’s workplace and get a sense of their day. They all seemed so earnest about sharing with you. Thanks to Kat, Mel and Kera for planning these evenings.
New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) visit: Last spring, the NEASC/IB team visited ACSD schools in order to ensure that our District has the foundational infrastructure needed to operate. This included an examination of the following standards: Learning Structure; Organizational Structure; Health, Safety, and Security; Finance, Facilities, and Resources; and Ethical Practice. The visiting team, consisting of administrators from as close as Rutland and as far away as the Hague, spent time in our schools and determined that we are ready to move on to our year-long self study process, which involves a deep focus on student learning. Between October 2024 and October 2025, the NEAC/IB team will come to all ACSD schools twice, both times visiting learning spaces and meeting with community members, including administrators, teachers, families, and students. This October (2024), the team will train administrators and coordinators to lead the District through the self study process. As a District, we will reflect on our strengths and areas for growth as they relate to student learning and evidence of impact. The team will then return again in October 2025 to learn about our year of reflection and – hopefully – to re-accreditate us as a NEASC/IB World District.
Staffing updates: Shannon Minor, paraprofessional, will continue at Cornwall, through next Wednesday, subbing in the 2nd grade. We also anticipate welcoming Kayli Manning as a paraprofessional who will be serving primarily in the 4th/5th grade classroom.
Thank you to FOWE: You may have noticed that we now have new, sturdy soccer goals thanks to FOWE. The students are really grateful for them. Thanks to James Landenberger for helping to select them and to Monty for assembling them.
Lunch volunteers: We were fully covered for this week. Next week we need coverage for Monday and the following week for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. If you can volunteer for any of these days, please email Christina cjohnston@acsdvt.org or sign up directly on the calendar.
Have a lovely weekend! Christina
Our engineering project has to do with weather
Please look at the clouds with your students and see what you notice.
Also please collect and send in washed and empty 1 liter bottles. Thank you.
Icing Containers Wanted!
In the 2-3 Classroom, we have been testing ideas for simple, inexpensive water bottle holders attached to student desks. (We often have quiet, focused work sessions interrupted with the Clunk-Clankety-Clank of metal water bottles falling onto the floor.)
After collecting ideas all summer and testing a few prototypes, we have a design that seems to work pretty well-- an old icing container attached to the desk with velcro. (Thank you, Erica Castle, for suggesting the velcro!)
Now we need more icing containers!
If you ice a cake, please save your icing containers for us!
The 2-3 class thanks you!

Head lice
Dear Parent/Guardians,
There have been a number of cases of head lice throughout the school these last few weeks. Attached you will find a letter from Nurse Dani about what to look for and what to do if you do discover head lice on your student. We would recommend that you check your child's head for lice and their eggs (nits) this weekend. Do reach out if you are not sure what you are looking for. We can help.
We appreciate your understanding and diligence,
Best wishes,
Christina and Samantha

802 Dental Program
Last year, ACSD schools participated in the 802 Smiles Dental Hygiene Program and this was very successful. I'm excited to share that we are once again partnering with dental hygienist, Michael Messina, to offer free dental screenings and preventative care to all ACSD students. The enrollment deadline is October 1st
