We are "Building Thinking Classrooms" in Grades 3-5
Building Thinking Classrooms is an instructional approach aimed at fostering deep thinking and problem-solving skills among students. It focuses on creating environments that promote active engagement, collaboration and critical thinking. The approach emphasizes the use of rich tasks, random grouping, visible thinking and a culture of questioning, encouraging students to think independently and learn through exploration. Consequently, students are empowered to take ownership of their learning.
On Tuesday, September 17th Amy Chang, a consultant working with Building Thinking Classrooms, visited Ms. Currier's 4th grade classroom. Amy did an amazing job engaging our 4th graders in a rich Math task that led to high levels of intellectual engagement and meaningful math discussions. In addition, our 3-5 teachers visited the class to see first hand how to effectively implement this initiative in their own classrooms. Our goal is to provide opportunities for all of our 3-5 students to engage in this learning practice multiple times throughout a unit of study.
Below see the very special Building Thinking Classrooms moments that were captured in real time!

๐ถ Dog Policy at JC
Friendly Reminder:
For the safety and comfort of all our students, we kindly ask that families refrain from bringing dogs onto school grounds (including our blacktop/playground area). We love our furry friends, but keeping our grounds pet-free helps ensure a safe environment for everyone. Thank you so much for your understanding and cooperation!
Book of the Month - "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds
International Dot Day - A global celebration creativity, courage and collaboration!
"Just make a mark and see where it takes you."
The Dot is about a girl named Vashti who thinks she can't draw. Her teacher encourages her to start with just a dot, and that simple dot leads her to explore her creativity.
Our art teacher, Ms. Dietrick, and our media specialist, Ms. Murray, did an amazing job collaborating on this very special K-5 project that showcases the creativity of our students. After all students read the book, they created their own initial dot in Art class and embellished their dot in Media class, resulting in the creation of the "happy dot people."
