VOGELTOWN SCHOOL PANUI
TE KURA O HUATOKI. TERM 4, WEEK 1, 2024.
TERM 4 TEACHER ONLY DAY
There is a teacher only day on Friday 25th October 2024. School will be closed for instruction.
This is the second of two days allocated this year to provide teachers with the opportunity to grow their confidence in implementing the refreshed literacy and mathematics curriculum.
KIA ORA VOGELTOWN WHĀNAU!
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break, filled with plenty of fun and quality family time. With a return to school, we’re super excited to continue our learning journey together and build on the progress that all children have made.
This term is jam packed full of things and promises to be full of opportunities. We have plenty of learning planned that will challenge and engage the children right through until the end of the term - with production, talent quest and athletics being hot topics around the school right now! Our focus, as always, is on creating a positive and supportive environment where every child feels valued and can succeed.
We appreciate your ongoing support, and we encourage you to stay engaged in your child’s learning. This could include reading at night or helping with home learning, supporting them in sports, coming along to a Home and School meeting or attending a production performance. Together, we can make this term a fantastic one for everyone in our school community.
Welcome back, and let’s make the most of the term ahead!

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST STUDENTS!
Today we welcomed new students and whānau into Vogeltown School with a pōwhiri. A pōwhiri is a Māori custom and a meaningful way to welcome people into a space like a marae, school, or community gathering.
The purpose of a pōwhiri is to remove the tapu (sacredness) between the hosts (tangata whenua) and the visitors (manuhiri) and to bring everyone together.
We hope that everyone feels officially welcomed into our school and that they are an important part of the Vogeltown School family!
VS HOME AND SCHOOL COMMITTEE
I hope you all had a wonderful and refreshing break! We are excited to kick off the new term, and we would love your involvement.
Our next Home and School Committee meeting will be on Wednesday, 23 October at 6:30 pm in the senior staff room. This is a great opportunity to connect, share ideas, and help shape the coming terms. Your voice is important and we encourage everyone to attend.
We look forward to seeing you there and working together to make a difference.
LUCKY BOOK CLUB
The latest Lucky Book Club catalogue will be coming home with children next week. Orders can be placed online by following the instructions in the catalogue. Cash orders cannot be accepted.
HATS IN TERM 4
It's now that time of year when our tamariki need protection from the sun's harmful rays - bucket hats must be worn every day during Term 4. We have the famous Vogeltown School bucket hats for sale at the senior office for $20 each, but any bucket hat can be worn. Children not wearing a hat will need to remain in a shaded area during break times. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
GREAT TARANAKI UKULELE AND MARIMBA FESTIVAL
On Wednesday evening, a talented group of students participated in the ‘Great Taranaki Ukulele and Marimba Festival,’ showcasing their musical skills alongside ukulele players from primary schools across New Plymouth. These students have shown incredible dedication, practicing 1-2 times a week throughout the year to prepare for this event. Their hard work truly shone through, and their performance on the night was nothing short of amazing. We couldn’t be more proud of their efforts! A big thanks to Mrs Dani Melody for leading this group in all their practices and on Wednesday night.
WEET-BIX KIDS TRYATHLON 2025
The 2025 Weet-Bix Kids Tryathlon is being held in New Plymouth on Tuesday 25th March 2025 at Ngamotu Beach.
If you wish to enter your child and register them under the Vogeltown School group, here is the link to do this:
