6th Grade Field Trip
We are preparing for our first team field trip, which will be on Friday April 19, 2024 to Mystic Seaport Museum. This trip is free for all students to attend and we are hopeful that all will be able to join us.
We are encouraging you to select a lunch option for your child via the permission slip that you will access on PowerSchool. In addition, you can have your child bring extra snacks for the bus ride. There is no guarantee that we will be able to purchase items from the shops or cafes. However, if that does happen, it is suggested that your child have at least $25.00. We expect students to be principled in order to attend this wonderful learning opportunity. Students may lose the opportunity to attend the trip if their behaviors are not in line with our expectations.
To sign the permission slip, follow the instructions below:
Most of you are already set up in PowerSchool, so all you need to do is complete the permission slip. To complete the online permission slip form, please login to your CREC PowerSchool Parent Portal account at https://crec.powerschool.com/public/ or by opening the PowerSchool app on your phone.
If logging into the Parent Portal, select the Forms icon and then click on the form to open. If using the PowerSchool App on your phone, go to the More menu, then Forms, and click on the form to open.
If you still need to set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal account, please see the instructions below. I will send another email with your Access ID and Password if you still need it. If you are still having trouble, please email Shontay Gibson at SGibson@crec.org and she can help you.

Course Updates
Reading: Students in their Reading classes are enjoying our class text Black Brother, Black Brother. They have been very excited about the book so far! However, these books do note leave the classroom, so please give reminders that if your student is absent they must remember to grab a book and read the chapters they missed during their Academic Study period.
Writing Workshop 6 - students are working on how to write clear, interesting topic sentences (5 different styles); and writing paragraphs. The goal is to have a strong understanding of what should be included in paragraphs so students can write a five paragraph essay on a topic that they select.
Global Systems 1: We just started our Africa unit. Our primary focus of study is the impact apartheid had on South Africa. Our travel scholars will have the opportunity to recognize diverse perspectives through this unit of study. In addition, students will also continue to build on their reading and writing skills as they analyze and respond to the various primary and secondary sources. Students will also get to promote a visit to an African country, in an upcoming summative project.
Español: Students are working on getting comfortable reading in different fragments from literary work in Spanish, poemas, novels, essays. The main purpose is for the students to enunciate and pronounce the language formally.
