School Newsletter Term 2, Week 7

Kia ora Koutou
I hope this message finds you all well. I am writing to thank everyone who contributed to making our recent school disco a fantastic event. A special thank you goes to our wonderful PTA for their exceptional organization. The afternoon was a resounding success, filled with fun, laughter, and dancing, all thanks to your hard work and dedication.
I also want to express my appreciation to our dedicated teachers who volunteered their time to help supervise the disco. Your presence ensured the safety and enjoyment of all the students, and it is your continued support and commitment that make such events possible.
This week, our entire staff gathered for a hui to focus on our upcoming Matariki celebrations. Matariki is a significant time for us to come together as a community, and we are looking forward to celebrating it with you all. This year’s celebrations will be especially meaningful as we are in the process of creating a permanent Hangi Pit area, which will be used for many future events. I would like to extend a special thank you to Brendon for his hard work in bringing this project to life. Your dedication and effort are greatly appreciated and will benefit our community for years to come.
It is also incredibly encouraging to witness and hear the positivity from our parents and wider whanau regarding all the wonderful things happening at our school. The effort of children within our classrooms, the playground, and other property enhancements are all steps towards our shared vision. These positive changes reflect our Board of Trustees’ (BOT) commitment to providing the very best in all areas of our Kura, ensuring that our Tamariki have the environment and resources they need to thrive and grow.
Our collective efforts and the support of our community are what make our school a special place. The enthusiasm and positive feedback from parents and whanau reaffirm that we are on the right path. We remain committed to our mission of fostering a nurturing and enriching environment for all our students.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support and involvement. Together, we are creating a vibrant, inclusive, and thriving community for our Tamariki. I look forward to celebrating Matariki with you all and continuing to work together towards our shared goals.

Tipuranga
Room 14
Ruma 14 have been showing their whakamana when writing their stories. We have been looking at our shared big book in class and writing stories about it. Today Trey and Mahi were trying very hard to plan their writing and then write a beginning, middle and last sentence about our story. Ruma 14 tamariki know that the more they try, the easier it gets.
Puāwaitanga
Room 11 have enjoyed being involved in our ‘Navigating the Journey’ programme. Our favourite lesson was learning about how we can show manaakitanga. On a leaf, we each wrote a message of a way that we can show manaakitanga at school. We have attached the leaves to our giant kauri tree. Here are some ways that we show manaakitanga in Room 11: pick up rubbish to help the environment, listen to others when they are speaking, smile at people, ask people to play if they are lonely. Thanks Room 11 for being ‘manaakitanga stars’.
Te Wao Nui o Tāne
Room 4 in action achieving structured literacy in the senior school. The focus is on consolidating and extending their reading and writing skills through a systematic and explicit approach. Students engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their understanding of complex texts and improve their fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. We are loving the added bonus of extending our understanding of global topics.
This week we had a focus to infer text; where students had to connect clues from the text with their own knowledge and experiences to draw conclusions.
