Shorts and Stouts at Bound by Fate
Introducing Shorts and Stouts, a short story book club partnership with our friends at Bound by Fate! Join us at the Bound by Fate Taproom for some good conversation, craft beers, and lao food.
Our story for June is Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery" which is available to read here. Participants can read the short story beforehand or we will also have copies available to read before the discussion.
Exploring Emotions for Kids
Join our three-part series for children ages 5-8 to explore emotions. What is a feeling? What do we do with our feelings? Dive into these and other emotional literacy issues for children, while doing fun activities and art projects. Please attend all three sessions -June 4, 11, & 18 to get the most from this program.
Julianne Chapman of Mindfulnest Coaching will lead this program. With a clinically focused Masters in Social Work and Licensure through New York State (LMSW), Julianne has more than a decade of experience working in multiple settings focused on mental health care. From inpatient to outpatient mental health care, Julianne has worked with individuals from childhood through adulthood. Julianne is also a board-certified case manager (CCM), being able to personally tailor care plans to a vast population.
Home Schooling 101 and Meet and Greet
Calling all experienced homeschoolers, new homeschoolers, and those interested in homeschooling! Join us on Monday June 24th from 6-7pm. Please bring your questions and/or knowledge and stop in to meet other home schoolers in the area!
We will have some resources to share and a Q&A session with our homeschool panel. Our audience is also encouraged to contribute at any time with answers. After the Q&A, attendees are welcome to mingle with other homeschoolers and continue discussions.
In an effort to remain welcoming to all, we respectfully request that all participants remain on the task of discussing HOW homeschooling is accomplished, and not the personal reasons why we choose to homeschool.
This event is intended for adults, but children who may need to tag along are welcome to our STEAM cart full with toys and drawing materials that are always open to all our patrons. Registration is required.
Please reach out to Miss Holly with any questions at hwright@sals.edu
Ready Set Grow! Garden Program for Kids
Ready Set Grow is a garden themed program that aims to inspire a love for nature while fostering a sense of responsibility and curiosity in young minds. Meetings will be from 11am-12pm on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month from May through August.
Throughout our meetings, we’ll dive into various gardening topics, including seed starting, soil preparation, plant care, composting, and even the fascinating world of beneficial insects and pollinators. Children will have the chance to get their hands dirty, planting seeds and watching them sprout into beautiful plants right before their eyes.
So, whether your child is a budding horticulturalist or simply curious about the natural world, our Ready Set Grow program offers a fantastic platform for them to explore, learn, and grow. Let’s get ready to dig in, nurture our gardens, and watch our dreams take root!
"The Story of Plastic" Film Screening with Climate Smart
Join Climate Smart Schuylerville for their film screening of "The Story of Plastic" on Saturday June 29th at 2pm.
The Story of Plastic is a searing exposé revealing the ugly truth behind plastic pollution and the false solution of plastic recycling. Different from every other plastic documentary you’ve seen, The Story of Plastic presents a cohesive timeline of how we got to our current global plastic pollution crisis and how the oil and gas industry has successfully manipulated the narrative around it. From the extraction of fossil fuels and plastic disposal to the global resistance fighting back, The Story of Plastic is a life-changing, Emmy-winning film depicting one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues. Approximately 95 minutes running time.
