Hubbard Woods Family Newsletter
October 14, 2024
Dear Hubbard Woods Families,
I wanted to take a moment to inform you about an important process that will take place this week at Hubbard Woods. Each grade level team of teachers will participate in half-day data team meetings. During these sessions, our dedicated staff will review the various assessments that students have completed since the start of the school year.
These meetings are critical in helping us make data-informed decisions that support and challenge every learner. We will identify areas of strength and opportunities for growth, ensuring that all students receive the instruction and support they need to succeed in the areas of social emotional learning, reading, and math.
For more information regarding your specific child’s data, please click here to access details about how to navigate Otus, and click here to view a recording of the Winnetka Parent Institute about Otus. You should have received an email that included information about how to log onto Otus.com in order to access benchmarking data. If you did not receive your child’s code, please email help@winnetka36.org.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create the best learning experience for all our students.
Warm regards,
Ivory Ajavon
Principal
Lunchroom Expectations
We are thrilled to share the excitement about our beautiful new multipurpose room, which will serve as the space where all our 1st-4th grade students will enjoy their lunch this year. This wonderful addition to our school provides a comfortable environment for students to gather and eat together.
As we transition into this new space, we have established a set of expectations to ensure that lunch is a positive and respectful experience for everyone. During the lunch period, we ask that students follow these guidelines:
Be respectful to all students and staff
Use a Level 2 voice (a normal speaking voice)
Clean up their space after eating
Listen and follow the directions of the adults in the room
Walk with safe feet when moving through the room
Remain seated at their table
Raise a hand if they need something
We understand that learning and practicing these expectations will take time, and part of our role as educators is to teach and reteach behaviors that contribute to a safe and enjoyable lunch period. If a student needs more than two reminders about these expectations, they will be asked to sit at a different table within the multipurpose room. This will provide them with a moment to reflect on their choices. The following day, they will have the opportunity to sit with their friends again.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home and look forward to a fantastic year in our new space.
Ghost Walk Information
We will be holding our annual Ghost Walk Thursday, October 31st. Kindergarten students walk will occur at 9am. 1st-4th grade will occur at 1:15pm. Attached is the route that we will be taking. We kindly ask that 1st-3rd grade parents line up on the perimeter of the building and that we give our 4th grade parents the opportunity to be on the blacktop first so that they can see their child perform. If you are planning to attend your child's classroom party, please follow the instructions of the classroom teacher as to how that information should be shared.

Safety Month in The Winnetka Public Schools
Thanks to our First Responders who have been working with Director of Safety & Security, Ray Finnerty, and our schools to practice drills and join us for “High Five Fridays” this October. Please review the Fall 2024 Safety Bulletin, produced in collaboration with the Village, for important safety-related information.
Safety Drills at Hubbard Woods
The week of October 21st to October 25th, Hubbard Woods will be practicing Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter protocols. Winnetka Public Schools will be utilizing the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) based on the “I Love U Guys” Standard Response Protocol.
For the lockdown drill, staff are encouraged to discuss with students that this is a practice drill in the event that someone doesn’t follow our procedures when entering the building at the front doors. Sometimes, people may walk in without checking in, and we want to ensure that we communicate with that individual. Until we do so, the school will lock the classroom doors and ask the students to remain quiet, so that we can locate the person.
- Monday, October 21st Lockdown Drill (Police Present)
- Tuesday, October 22nd Fire Evacuation Drill (Fire Department Present)
- Wednesday, October 23rd Shelter in Place
More information to come from our Director of Safety and Security, Ray Finnerty.
