Walk-A-Thon .... Thank you for being "ALL IN?"
Walk-Thon May 3
Our Second Annual Walk-A-Thon was held May 3rd, in the First Assembly Parking lot and school grounds. Your parent participation and partnership made this a fun and successful event. We recorded over $75,000 in donations at the end of the event, but that number is still climbing. We are hopeful to reach $80,000. If you want to make a donation still, please reach out to Wendy Sulzer at WSulzer@fmcs-fl.com. She will be happy to assist you.
Family passes for a day at Sun Splash were awarded to the students who secured the most individual donations as well as to the family that raised the most money overall. We are so thankful to our generous corporate sponsors, ABC Electric Services, Inc., Premier Fence, RA Management, Liberty Aluminum and FACTS SIS. Thank you also to Zack Wilson with Way FM Radio for providing our music and to the local fire department for bringing the ladder truck and water hose.
"ALL IN" T-Shirts can still be purchased at the front desk of both the elementary and the middle school for $50. These may be worn every day for the remainder of the school year and on every Friday of the 24-25 school year.
I think that we can say that ALL of our students and families had a wonderful time. We couldn't do this without the parent partnership and participation of so many that assisted, from the tailgating to parents walking with the classes, helping hand out popsicles to those operating the bubble machines. Thank you for your generosity in helping your students build pages and securing donations.
TEAM WORK all the way around! Thank you for being "ALL IN"!!!!

Parent Volunteer Hours Due May 10
Volunteer hour forms are available at both the Elementary and the Middle school receptionist desks. Please fill out the form and have it signed by the person who supervised your volunteer hours. Turn it in to the receptionist by May 10th. If you're unsure of how many hours you have completed, this information is available through FACTS on the parent portal.
Since 2010, parents have been required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per student through school sponsored events. NOTE: The maximum number of hours per family is 20. (If you have 3 or more children enrolled at FMCS, you will only have to serve 20 hours to get credit for all of your children.) There is no partial credit for less than 10 hours served. If this is not completed by May 10, your account will be billed $200 per student with a max of $400 per family.

National Junior Honor Society Members
Honor Society Induction May 2
FMCS recognized new inductees into The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) on May 2, in Colonial Chapel at Noon. Family members of inductees were invited to join us for the ceremony.
(NEHS) was formed with two primary purposes: to recognize students who have achieved academic excellence and demonstrated responsibility within and outside the classroom, and to engage those students, through the work of the chapter, in service and leadership development activities.
(NJHS) elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond.
Congratulations to our NEHS and NJHS members.

Middle School Student Volunteer Hours Due Soon
As part of the Bible curriculum, each student in middle school will have a community service requirement: 5 hours for 6th grade per semester and 10 hours for 7th and 8th grade per semester. Only work completed during that SEMESTER is accepted. A student cannot receive credit for more than 10 hours per semester.
DUE DATES:
- 8th Grade - May 21
- 6th & 7th Grade - May 24
These service hours are:
a) To be hours of free services.
b) Rendered outside of the household and/or unrelated to anyone in your household. Note: You CANNOT work at a business for anyone to whom you are related.
c) A MAXIMUM of half of the semester hours can be completed for credit at a student’s church.
d) It is our desire to see students move out into the community and “let their light shine” – hours can be accomplished off of the school campus.
Activities may include babysitting, lawn care, nursing home visitation, Sunday church nursery and/or children’s programs, community outreach with church or school group, class clean-up projects, work within a non-profit organization and any creative project submitted in writing and approved by the Bible teacher and/or an administrator.
A verification slip will be filled out by the student, signed by the supervisor and a parent and turned in to Middle School Receptionist on or before the assigned due date. The student is also required to turn in a 150-word summarized report of his/her duties and experiences during the Community Service Project.
The Community Service Requirement (CSR) will be graded so that each hour will represent one-tenth of the CSR grade. Example: 6 hours = 60% CSR grade, 10 hours=100% CSR grade. The CSR grade will count for 25% of the overall semester Bible grade. Penalty for late submission: (drops one letter grade) one day late = B+ (89%), two days late = C+ (79%), after two days late - 0%.
Fort Myers Christian 6th, 7th, & 8th Grade Summer Reading
Hello Middle School Family,
This is Mrs. Barkman, the Language Arts teacher. I am looking forward to next year with great anticipation. I have already been praying for you and your families, and I cannot wait to get to know you all better!
Summer is here, and it is time to relax, but never stop reading! This summer, I have created a reading list for all of middle school, including honors classes. You will need to purchase these books, because you will be annotating each chapter (see attached Close Reading Marks for annotating symbols). When you annotate, you are writing directly in the book, responding and actually giving the story feedback. What did you like? What surprised you? What confused you? What did this remind you of? What was important? Using the symbols or special marks helps to keep your reading going at a comfortable pace. The marks also allow you to return to the book and see where you found something interesting or noteworthy.
You will be bringing your book to class for the first day of school where we will be discussing the main text. I will also be giving you a grade for the quality of your annotations. Please note, you may have more annotations at the beginning of the story than as the story develops. You are not required to have a note on each page. Only respond when you really see something that you noticed.
If you have any questions, please email me at abarkman@fmcs-fl.com. Enjoy your summer and your summer reading! Make wonderful memories and stay safe.
In His Service,
Mrs. Barkman
