Weekly Memo
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Hi Everyone,
We hope you are having a great week! We started our i-Ready diagnostic today and our students (and staff) were great at rolling with the punches when the timing did not work as we planned. We will hopefully finish up this round tomorrow (but if not, we will figure it out next week!). We are really looking forward to getting this great data to help support our students.
If any student is interested in joining Mr. Pietrowski and Mr. Thompson they will be offering Open Weight Room sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays @ 2:15-3:15. For more information you can check in with either of them or with Mr. Oliver.
We have our annual Open House tonight from 6:00-7:30. This will be an opportunity for you to walk through your student's schedule and meet their teachers, school counselor, and even ask any of your school lunch questions with Shelley from our Food Services department. We will begin the evening in Pride (where you will pick up your schedule) and will then transition through the evening block by block. We will have maps available as well, in case this is your first time visiting our school (or it's been awhile since you have strolled through the halls).
As always if you have any questions please reach out to Mike, Liza, or me.
Thanks,
Amanda
Picture Day is Next Week!
Students will take their school pictures during their English class on either Monday, September 16 (white day) or Tuesday, September 17 (blue day). All students are required to have their pictures taken. Please check out mylifetouch.com if you would like to order pictures this year.

York High School is proud to announce our annual Veterans Day event, a tradition that brings our staff and students together to show appreciation and gratitude to the brave men and women who have served our country. On the morning of Friday, November 8th, we will be hosting a school-wide assembly followed by a special breakfast for the veterans who join us.
To make this event even more meaningful, we will be creating a slideshow featuring photos of the veterans in our lives. We kindly request your assistance in making this a success by sending pictures of your veterans to gcaraballo@yorkschools.org. With your help, we can create a memorable tribute to the heroes who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation.
Thank you in advance for your support and participation in honoring our veterans the way they truly deserve.
A Message from Frau Kyer
Let’s go to Germany!!
As you may know, York High School has a long standing partnership with the PDG High School in Obersulm, Germany. Over the past twenty years students have traveled back and forth between Germany and York, friendships have been forged and the two cultures have been shared.
Our next trip is April 21-30, 2025. We will fly into Munich and travel to Salzburg and the nearby alpine village of Hallstatt. Then we will visit the Concentration camp and Holocaust memorial site at Dachau before traveling on to spend five days with our host families in Germany (who all speak English). During our time there we will visit the Mercedes-Benz museum and the spring festival in Stuttgart as well as spending time at our partner school.
For the first time we are opening the trip to students who are not taking German. Participants must be at least a sophomore and have a reference from one of their teachers. The cost is approximately $2,800. We will take a maximum of 20 students and hope to have registrations closed by the end of September.
Interested students or parents can get more information from Frau Kyer (mkyer@yorkschools.org).
Danke!
