Principal Update
March 7th, 2025
Greetings WHS Community,
Someone said it best to me this morning: “We’re already through one week of March!?!” Yes, we are! The clock is ticking fast on the school year. Looks like some warmer weather is on our horizon in the next 10 days as well as the clocks moving forward this weekend.
As it is now March, we are excited to celebrate Women's History Month. This is a time to honor and recognize the incredible contributions of women throughout history, both past and present. From trailblazers in science, literature, and politics to everyday heroes making a difference in their communities, women have played a vital role in shaping our world.
Please see this week’s updates below, and don’t forget to “spring forward” this weekend.
Best,
Darrell Braggs
Announcement/Updates
In regards to the communication I sent earlier this week, I will also add that if you have questions about what’s going on at the school, you can reach out to the school directly to get information. Whether it’s my office or your student’s House office, we would be the source of information. I respectfully caution against taking information on social media as factual information as to what is happening in the school.
We successfully had one coffee chat this past week for our Spanish speakers. On Tuesday, March 11, we will have a coffee chat primarily in English, but there will be language support for Spanish speakers. That will take place from 845-10 in the Waltham Room.
On March 8, we have our annual Parent Awareness Conference. This is a great resource and opportunity for all caregivers in our district. Please see the attached flyer.
Invitations to apply to the Waltham High School National Honor Society are emailed and mailed to eligible juniors during the second semester of their junior year. The email will come from nhs@walthampublicschools.org. The WHS NHS is not affiliated with any online organization, including those that ask you to pay a fee to become a member. If you have any questions, please contact the NHS advisors at nhs@walthampublicschools.org
Course selection is upon us, and students in grades 9-11 are preparing to select courses for the 2025-2026 school year. Students will work with the counselors at a select time during History classes between 3/10 and 3/21. Please start having conversations with students about any course aspirations for the 2025-2026 school year. Below are the links to the 2025-2026 Program of Studies
Here is our updated Hawk Block schedule We will continue to monitor and support students successfully signing up for Hawk Block to maximize the time. Here is our updated schedule below:
March 12 - Hawk Block
March 19 - No Hawk Block (PDRT Day)
March 26 - No Hawk Block (ELA MCAS)
We continue to ask that you please drive at an appropriate speed on campus. Student safety is our number one priority and we need your help to make sure our students can safely access the building, including student transportation vehicles.
I want to thank you all for your ongoing patience with traffic in the morning. Our priority is always getting our buses and walkers safely in the building, and we will continue to do so. Please be mindful and respectful of our staff and School Resource Officers outside trying to safely monitor students. We kindly ask that when you are here for pick up or drop off, please pull your vehicle up as far as possible to get as many vehicles in the queue as possible.
Please see the transportation route changes in this document.
