Principal's Notes
Some of the take aways from last week's Anxious Generation Parent Book Discussion Group include the importance of working to build responsibility, independence, resiliency, and confidence in our children. Try not to do for your child what they can and should be doing for themselves. Prepare your child for the path, not the path for your child. This can be done with some simple changes - help your child set an alarm to wake up and get ready for school, let them pack their own bags for school, check out Letgrow.com for ideas and sign up for the Independence Kit for ideas.
We had planned to have a Community Meeting on Monday, November 18th, but the new bleachers are being installed in the gym so we won't be able to accommodate the community. Our next meeting will be on December 16th at 2:30pm.
I have some staffing updates to share with the community. Mrs. Pegurri, building aide, took a full time teaching position in Brockton. We wish her all the best in her new role! We are currently hiring a new building aide. If you or someone you know might be interested in this position, please apply on the Norwell Schools website. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Julie Badger to Cole School as a new special education aide. Exciting news to share - Mrs. Rinkus, grade 4 teacher, is expecting her first baby this coming April.
We are always looking for substitutes for teachers, aides, and nurses. Substituting offers flexible scheduling, allowing one to work on available days and at selected levels or schools. We even have half day spots to fill! If you or someone you know is interested, please apply at the Norwell Schools website.

Counselor's Corner
This week, we did not have SEL lessons due to the Veterans Day holiday, but we’ll resume on Monday with caring lesson 3. All grades will also do a review on community meeting expectations, so we can be ready for the meeting (also on caring!) at 2:30 that afternoon. We’ll be introducing this year’s Student Government at the meeting, as well. Congratulations to everyone who ran!!
If your family needs any assistance with a Thanksgiving meal, gift cards for the holidays, or other necessities, the Norwell Food Pantry and Friends is a great resource. You can reach out to Mrs. Walsh confidentially for forms at 781-659-8823 ext 1111 or anne.walsh@norwellschools.org, or contact the food pantry directly at
norwellfp@aol.com or 781-690-5050 (call or text).
Specialists' Scoop
Having an opportunity to get outside for physical education class, kindergarteners and first graders practiced their soccer skills at four different stations. They included dribbling around cones, kicking a soccer ball at a net defended by a goalie, 3 step hard kick at a pin and passing and trapping with a partner. Grades 3-5 started their soccer unit playing multiple games outside.
In the art room we are wrapping up our fall art lessons. Check out what all the grades are doing.
Kindergarten worked on 5 little pumpkins sitting on a gate. They learned how to sponge paint pumpkins and glue on a gate.
First Grade learned how to draw pumpkins and then add colors from light to dark.
Second Grade worked on designing fall leaves. They learned how to overlap and color in the leaf by using only 3 colors.
Third Grade Learned how to draw a fall tree with a tire swing and fence. They combined oil pastels, paper, paint and drawing all in the same project.
Fourth Grade learned how to draw a pumpkin from a birds eye view. They learned how to place the paint by how the sunlight hits the pumpkin.
Fifth Grade learned how to draw pumpkins and then paint and design the inside with dots.
