Tiger Talk
District Newsletter - February 23, 2025
Superintendent's Message
Loveland Tiger Families,
Friday morning, Treasurer John Espy and I attended a meeting with some of our local state legislators, along with Board President Jonathan Eilert and Board Vice President Lynn Mangan. The meeting was organized by the Hamilton County Educational Service Center to allow local districts to talk about school funding with lawmakers as they begin work on the state budget.
The two-year budget proposal from Governor DeWine would cut funding for Loveland City School District. Our district is currently receiving $4,250 per student in state funding, which is less than 85% of Ohio public school districts. Reducing that amount would have a major impact on our five-year forecast. Our community has made it clear that they want district leadership to advocate for them with state lawmakers. We are committed to that work. As the budget process continues to move forward, the Treasurer and I will keep you updated on developments and discuss how you can get involved.
I also have an update on an exciting project at Loveland High School. The Steve Kenyon Outdoor Memorial Classroom will honor the Loveland grad, and long-time Loveland teacher and coach, who died suddenly last year. The project was envisioned by students on the Loveland High School Green Team and in Tigers Inc., with the support and encouragement of the Kenyon family and the backing of the Loveland Schools Foundation.
The project will be almost entirely community-funded, and our community has stepped up in a big way. Since launching public fundraising just a few weeks ago, the project has raised more than $78,000. That moves the project over the halfway point. The video above helps explain the project and how it will honor Steve Kenyon’s legacy here in Loveland. Thank you to LHS student Brooke Morris for producing the video.
You can follow this link to donate, and if you want to learn more about the project, please contact Tigers Inc. teacher Craig Murnan at murnancr@lovelandschools.org or LHS Green Team teacher Tonya Nkhata at nkhatato@lovelandschools.org.
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We are very fortunate to have a community that partners with us to make amazing things happen for students.
If you have questions, you can always reach me at mikebroadwater@lovelandschools.org.
Go Tigers!
