Welcome to February! January seemed like it would never end! Things are rolling right along here at Edison and students are working hard to show what they know.

Attendance is crucial to gaining momentum and keeping our progress moving forward. Even being 10 minutes late to school can hugely impact a child's learning. Please let us know if you are struggling to get your student to school on time and we can provide you resources and tips to help you.

EXCITING NEWS FOR OUR UPCOMING EDISON 5TH GRADERS!

Edison Elementary has booked a 2 day event overnight trip at High Trails Outdoor Education Center for the fall of 2025!!

In order to off-set some of the costs, we will be beginning some fundraisers for the program. Our first one is being sponsored by our PTA.

Please plan on attending and bring friends and family to our Spaghetti and Trivia night, 2/28/25 at 5:30 pm.

Flyers are were in this weeks take home folder. All proceeds will go into a High Trails Fund. We are asking our 4th graders to help serve and work the event. Any student who volunteers, will get their dinner for free. Classroom teachers will be sending out a sign up for those students interested.

4th grade parents are encouraged to attend, as we will have a video of the program and the 5th grade teachers and students will be on hand to share and answer any questions about their experience.

As always, if you have any concerns please reach out to the classroom teacher and keep the lines of communication flowing. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership in education with you.

¡Bienvenidos a febrero! ¡Enero parecía que nunca terminaría! Las cosas van bien aquí en Edison y los estudiantes están trabajando duro para demostrar lo que saben.

¡NOTICIAS EMOCIONANTES PARA NUESTROS PRÓXIMOS ESTUDIANTES DE 5TO GRADO DE EDISON!

¡La Primaria Edison ha reservado un viaje nocturno para un evento de 2 días en el Centro Educativo al Aire Libre High Trails para el otoño de 2025!

Para compensar algunos de los costos, comenzaremos algunas recaudaciones de fondos para el programa. El primero está patrocinado por nuestra PTA.

Planee asistir y traiga amigos y familiares a nuestra noche de espaguetis y trivia, el 28/02/25 a las 5:30 p.m.

Los folletos se encuentran en la carpeta para llevar a casa de esta semana. Todos los ingresos se destinarán a un fondo High Trails. Estamos pidiendo a nuestros alumnos de 4to grado que ayuden a servir y trabajar en el evento. Cualquier estudiante que sea voluntario recibirá su cena gratis. Los maestros del salón enviarán una inscripción para aquellos estudiantes interesados.

Se anima a los padres de 4to grado a asistir, ya que tendremos un video del programa y los maestros y estudiantes de 5to grado estarán disponibles para compartir y responder cualquier pregunta sobre su experiencia.

This month offers a wonderful opportunity to instill values of kindness, respect, and appreciation for diversity in our children.

Celebrating Black History Month
Throughout February, we will highlight significant figures and events that have shaped the history of our nation. One notable figure is Fannie Mae, a pioneering educator and civil rights advocate from Colorado Springs. Fannie Mae dedicated her life to improving educational opportunities for African American children. Valentine's Day: Sharing Love and Kindness
Valentine's Day is a perfect time to remind our students about the importance of love and friendship. We encourage families to discuss the meaning of love—not just romantic love, but love for friends, family, and community. Here are some ways to celebrate:

• Acts of Kindness: Encourage your child to perform small acts of kindness, such as writing notes of appreciation to their classmates or helping at home.
• Family Activities: Consider engaging in activities that foster love and togetherness, like cooking a meal as a family or creating homemade Valentine’s cards.

Special Education Teachers Anna Zehr and Pamela Johnson and would like to share a resource for families with students receiving special education services. This past month we have been WIDA Access testing all multilingual learners in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The students have done a great job at staying focused and doing their best! We should have these scores by the end of the school year and will send home the reports for parents to see the progress their children are making in their English skills.

El mes pasado, WIDA Access probó a todos los estudiantes multilingües en lectura, escritura, comprensión auditiva y expresión oral. ¡Los estudiantes han hecho un gran trabajo manteniéndose enfocados y haciendo lo mejor que pueden! Deberíamos tener estos puntajes al final del año escolar y enviaremos los informes a casa para que los padres vean el progreso que sus hijos están logrando en sus habilidades en inglés.

In GT, we have had quite a few cancelled Reading groups during January because of the weather, but we are rocking now. In our Literacy groups we are reading short stories in 3/4/5, and having deep conversations about the texts, and in Math we have been honing our chess skills. Next week we begin our Robotics unit in Math GT. Enrich, enrich, enrich!

En GT, tuvimos bastantes grupos de lectura cancelados durante enero debido al clima, pero ahora estamos genial. En nuestros grupos de alfabetización leemos cuentos el 3/4/5 y tenemos conversaciones profundas sobre los textos, y en matemáticas hemos estado perfeccionando nuestras habilidades de ajedrez. La próxima semana comenzamos nuestra unidad de Robótica en Math GT. ¡Enriquece, enriquece, enriquece!

In Dance, students have had the opportunity to practice Audience Etiquette for movies and performances that include a symphony, ballet, play, poetry reading, and other formal shows.

Students practiced:

• Getting to the venue early to find seats and use restroom

• Putting their "cell phones" on silence or turning them off

• How/when to step out of the performance if there is an emergency (during applause or an intermission

• Clapping at appropriate times (and if you don't know, listen/watch the others around you)

• The only "yelling" you might do is at the end of an amazing performance, and you might yell "Bravo" or "Brava".

In Danza, los estudiantes han tenido la oportunidad de practicar la etiqueta del público para películas y presentaciones que incluyen una sinfonía, ballet, obra de teatro, lectura de poesía y otros espectáculos formales.

Los estudiantes practicaron:

• Llegar temprano al lugar para encontrar asientos y usar el baño.
