Newsletter 12.7.24
This week...
It was heartening to receive our KS2 SATs results on Tuesday. As a staff team, we have worked so hard this year to improve standards in school, and we are delighted to have attained significantly higher results (in both KS1 and KS2) than last year!
A HUGE thank you to our super team for all you do!
We are thrilled with our children's attainment, but it is important to mention that we are even more delighted with how wonderful they are as members of our school community. As we walked to weekly Mass at Church on Wednesday, I watched with joy as the St Therese children held the hands of their preschool/reception buddies to keep them safe. We don't ask this of the children, but they do this simply because they are so naturally kind and caring. They are a credit to our families.
Have a lovely weekend.
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
SATs Results
Well done to our Year 6s, who received their KS2 SATs results this week. You should all be very proud! Mr Craigen spent time with each child individually on Tuesday, to talk through their attainment. Children should have come home with their results. If you can't find these, please let the school office know.
Young Voices 2025!
We have some very exciting news... next January, our school is taking part in the Young Voices Concert at Sheffield Arena! We will be forming a school choir, and the children participating in choir will be offered the opportunity to attend the concert!
Schools from across the country come together to form the UK's largest choir - around 9000 children! Families are invited to purchase tickets for the concert in the evening, at Sheffield Arena.
I've been taking children to Young Voices for the past decade and it's always such an incredible experience!
For more info, take a look at their website: Frontpage | Young Voices
BWCAT Spelling Bee!
On Monday, four of our super-spellers travelled to compete in the Annual Bishop Wheeler Catholic Academy Trust Spelling Bee! It's the first time our school has been involved in this tournament and we were very proud to represent St Joseph's within our Trust!
Well done to Grace, Jessica, Spencer and Charlotte T, who all made us very proud with their fantastic courage and resilience.
Thank you to Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School, Yeadon, for organising and hosting the event.
We're already looking forward to next year's tournament... !
Rugby Sessions
Huge thanks to the Wetherby Bulldogs, who gave up their time to come into school last Friday and run rugby workshops with St Bernadette's, St Patrick's and St Therese. The children loved it!
Special mention to Aoife's Daddy - Aoife's been telling me for WEEKS how excited she was about you coming in to coach in her school! Thank you!
New Starters
It's been lovely to have our new Nursery and Reception starters visiting us for taster sessions in school this week. We can't wait to have you as part of our St Joseph's school family!
Thank you to Mrs Tucker and Miss Gill, who ran a welcome meeting for families on Tuesday.
Lovely News!
We are delighted to offer huge congratulations to Miss Dawson, who is expecting a baby in December! She shared this with the children last week and I'm sure lots of them have already come home to eagerly share the good news with you already!
Congratulations, Miss Dawson!
St Therese Production!
We are very excited about the St Therese end of year production next Wednesday (17th July)!
Please note, we are holding the performance in Church.
ST Therese children need to arrive at 6:15pm. Please do not be late!
The performance will begin at 6:30pm
Reading Challenge
On Tuesday, Catherine from Tadcaster Library came to share information with the children about the Summer Reading Challenge! This year, it's the Marvellous Makers!
We are really keen to get as many children reading at home as possible - reading opens SO MANY DOORS in a child's life - so please take part if you can.
End of Year Learning Reviews
Today, your child should come home with their End of Year Learning Review. Please check their bags to make sure you've found it (especially if your children are anything like mine and will completely forget to hand it to you!).
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 94.9%
Our attendance this week is ABOVE National Average!
Well done, everyone!
We have been learning...
St Nicholas (Nursery)
This week we have been focusing on the amazing class book - Dear Zoo. We have made mosaic animal masks, played Dear Zoo lotto, and made animal stick puppets.
St Francis (Preschool/Reception)
In maths, our reception children have been recapping their number bonds to ten. We used the Numicon to find all the facts and we are practising our instant recall of these facts.
St Bernadette (Y1/Y2)
We learnt about Ernest Shackleton in History. We thought about how he explored Antarctica and how the snow and ice would make for difficult conditions. We then made our own snow!
St Patrick (Y3/Y4)
In English this week, we have learnt about Maya Angelou and focused on her poem, Still I Rise. We thought carefully about the meaning of the poem, its powerful words and imagery. We created word clouds with rhyming and emotive words to help us next week with our writing our own poems.
St Therese (Y5/Y6)
In PE this week, we played a game of 'static football'. We split into two teams and we had to choose a spot on the pitch from which we were not allowed to move - we had to pass and shoot from where we stood. One person from each team was allowed to run along the sidelines and pass the ball back into play if it went out. It was a great game and we all really enjoyed it!
