A Message from Mr. Ryder
OV Families,
Hard to believe we are already halfway through November! The spirit of gratitude fills the air as we approach the season of giving.
A heartfelt thank you to all our veterans who attended our recent Veterans Day assembly. Your presence made the event even more special, and we are grateful for your service and sacrifices for our country. It was inspiring to see students and staff come together to honor and celebrate the bravery of our heroes.
As always, we appreciate the support of our families. Stay tuned for more updates and Remind messages, and thank you for being a vital part of our school community!
Warm regards,
Mr. Ryder, Principal

Be Kind Spirit Week
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Laino
Students need digital citizenship skills to participate fully in their communities and make smart choices online and in life. The Overlook Way of being safe, kind and responsible doesn't just apply here at school, but also at home and online. Our district used Common Sense Media's Digital Citizenship Curriculum to address how to stay safe online, balance device and media usage, and how to be upstanders online.
From phones and tablets to streaming movies and YouTube, media and technology access is everywhere. Kids like how accessible and easy it is to play games, watch shows and get information.
Common Sense Media gives these 5 Tips:
1.Create screen-free times and zones.
-Help kids take breaks from tech by limiting screen time in bedrooms, during study
time, or at the dinner table.
2. Try parental controls.
-Set content limits that make sense for your family. Alongside conversations about
healthy media habits, use features such as content filtering, privacy settings, and
time limits offered by the apps and platforms your family uses to help manage access
and exposure to media.
3. Establish clear family rules.
-Decide together what kind of media and tech is OK -- and when it's OK to use it. A
family media plan can help get everyone on the same page.
4. Watch and play together.
-Choose quality, age-appropriate media to enjoy with your kids. Visit
commonsensemedia.org to find shows, games, and more.
5. Help kids identify healthy behaviors.
-Practice talking about feelings -- both physical and emotional -- during screen and non-screen activities.

Contacting Mrs. Jira
Our secretary, Mrs. Jira, is the contact person for calling off your student and any change of dismissal plans throughout the day. Please call the attendance line at 330-335-1424 and leave a message with any changes BEFORE school starts. If you need to make changes after 9:00 am, please call the main line at 330-335-1420. We recommend you let Mrs. Jira and your child's teacher know when your student will be absent, leaving early, or arriving late. Letting us know when your child will leave early allows us to be prepared for when you arrive. We ask that all end-of-the-day dismissal plans be made by 2:45 p.m. Thank you for your efforts!
**REMINDER- Mr. Ryder must approve all vacations AHEAD OF TIME. Please send him an email requesting excused absences. dryder@wadsworthschools.org
Birthday Celebrations
We've had many questions about birthday treats.
Here is what the student handbook says:
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:
In compliance with our District Health and Wellness policy and allergies, food treats are not permitted. Stickers, pencils, erasers or other non-edible treats are welcome to be distributed instead.
We appreciate your help in following this policy.
Non-Service Animals in Schools and Elsewhere on District Property
Board policy 8390
Animals permitted in schools and elsewhere on District property shall be limited to those necessary to support specific curriculum-related projects and activities, those that provide assistance to a student or staff member due to a disability (e.g., seizure disorder), or those that serve as service animals as required by Federal and State law.
