Principal Message
South Families,
Fall is racing forward, as Homecoming Week is upon us. Much of this "Rebel Review" provides you information about the upcoming week as we have our Homecoming Game and Dance, a visit by WKYC and a food drive and donation competition. I know our students will continue to show the tremendous spirit and kindness that has been very evident from the first four weeks of school! i am excited to keep our positive momentum going!
I will now be sending "The Rebel Review" every two weeks to keep you informed and to celebrate the great things our students and staff are doing. I would also encourage you to visit our school website anytime to view our latest updates. Homecoming Court and Friday Assembly!
Congratulations to our 2024 Homecoming Court. They will be celebrated during our annual Homecoming Pep Assembly which will take place at the end of the school day on Friday, September 20.

WKYC - Morning Show Kick-Off
We have an incredible opportunity to show our spirit and the tremendous things happening at Willoughby South as we host Channel 3 and their Morning Show - Friday Football Fever! This will be a great morning rally before our big Homecoming Day. I encourage any in our community to come out and add to our spirit from 5:00 am- 7:00 am at our Football Stadium on Friday, September 20.
Football Game and King and Queen Announcement
Join us for our Homecoming Football game as our Rebels take on Lorain High School at 7:00pm. This year our King and Queen will be announced during halftime festivities!
Homecoming Dance - September 21, 2024
To cap off the week, our students will enjoy the homecoming dance on Saturday, September 21 from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Please see the information below for dance rules and details:
- Homecoming Dance "Under the Stars" is from 7:00 to 10 pm on September 21
- Doors will open to students at 6:45 pm
- Students must be at the dance by 8:30 pm, No Entry After that time
- Tickets for Homecoming are $20.00 (Cash, Checks or Credit Card accepted)
- Tickets may be purchased during Lunch periods through Thursday, September 19
- No Ticket Sales after Thursday, September 19
- All Students who are bringing a guest, must provide a "Guest Approval Form" - The forms are available in the office and were emailed to all students

Let's "Pack the Pantry"
This week we are partnering with Chick-fil-A to sponsor our Homecoming football game! Leading up to the game, we will be participating in a canned food drive from Monday through Thursday at school. We will be competing against Lorain High School to collect the most food items! Bring any canned fruits or vegetables in to be donated to a local food pantry. At the end of the football season, the high school with the most donated food will win free Chick-fil-A for the entire school! Drop off your non-perishable goods this week from 9/16 to 9/19. All food items will be donated to WECP Food Pantry! Let's help out South!!
Senior College Information Night - September 19
Seniors and families planning on attending college next Fall, Our guidance and LEAF counselors are hosting an information night for you to hear about the college applications and process, important deadlines, and the use of Naviance. A question and answer period will also be available to allow you to ask important questions and receive answers. This will be held in South's LGI Auditorium beginning at 6:30pm.
Parent Teacher Conferences - September 25
On Wednesday, September 25, South will host our first Parent-Teacher Conferences of the year. Conferences provide an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss progress up to this point in the year. We have scheduled conferences in the middle of the First Quarter in order for discussions to occur that may help increase student achievement prior to the end of the First Quarter (October 17). Teachers will be available anytime from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm to meet with you to discuss student progress and any questions you may have.
Start with Hello - September 18
On Wednesday, September 18, please wear green as a symbol of unity and solidarity with Sandy Hook Promise. Green is the Sandy Hook Elementary School color and a symbolic color of change. By wearing green today, your community is making a promise to Start With Hello!

Great News - It is now time to view and order your students school day portraits for the 24-25 school year. Cirino Photography has released the Online Viewing/Ordering Gallery. You will need your students first name, last name and student ID number exactly as it appears in PowerSchool to log in - if you have any questions Cirino Photography is here to help just give them a call at 440 953-8200. Congratulations National Merit Semi-Finalists
We are excited to announce that seniors Austin Parker and Siddharth Godbole have been named National Merit Semifinalists! This prestigious recognition is awarded to high school students who rank among the top 1% of PSAT test-takers nationwide. As Semifinalists, they are now eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships. This is an incredible honor, and we are so proud of their hard work and dedication!
Rebel Recognition - Students of the Week!
Each week, our teachers nominate students who are consistently positive in their approach to school both academically and behaviorally. At the end of each month, each nominated student will have a chance to earn Student of the Month.

There is nothing more meaningful to an educator than to know the impact they are making on students and community. We have great staff here at South that I want to recognize as much as I can. As we move forward, we would like to invite you to save the dates and mark your calendar for the

September 19: Senior Night at 6:30 p.m Come to South LGI to hear about college applications and process, important deadline, the use of Naviance, including a question and answer period to allow you to ask important questions and receive answers
September 25: Parent/Guardian Conferences. Meet your student’s faculty and staff. No
appointments necessary and teachers will be available from 4:30-7:30
October 24: Junior Night at 6:30 p.m When should we visit colleges? What if my student does not want to go to college? How many colleges should he/she apply to in the process? All these and
many more questions will be answered during this session at South LGI at 6:30 p.m. Please
come and join us to learn many things about your child’s future
November 20: Parent/Guardian Conferences and FINANCIAL AID NIGHT beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Parents and Guardians are invited to participate in Financial Aid Night in the LGI. LEAF
(Lakeland Educational Assistance Foundation) will have a representative there to present
the timeline and process for applying to colleges, FAFSA and ways to use Naviance to help
your student find colleges and help with career choices.
Advice from our Counselors:
Remind your students to:
a. Start strong and end strong
b. Ask for help or any of type of assistance
c. Come to see us in guidance for help or just to say hello!
d. Join a club, athletic team or say hello to one person in the first weeks of school.
e. Make sure that they are carrying 5-6 credits for the year. Check for athletic eligibility

South Clinic Reminder - Senior Immunization Information
Seniors are required by law to provide proof of MCV4/meningococcal meningitis vaccination (see district communication from the Spring) It is very important that you submit updated immunization information to our clinic via fax (440-975-3645), or hard copy (return to clinic ). If you have any questions, please email them to our School Nurse at eileen.krancevic@weschools.org.

Time to start forming your Class Committees as well. Your kids will be Seniors before you know it, so it’s time to fundraise and plan for your students' senior year activities. Keep an eye on your emails as we put dates together.

Yearbook Information
Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools Produce Market
The Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools and the Cleveland Food Bank will provide monthly produce for any family in the community. Our first market will be open on Thursday, September 5th from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. at North High School. Service will not begin prior to 10 a.m. See the posting for more dates and information.
