ReferralGPS
As the 2023-2024 school year winds down, we want to take a minute and remind all of our families of the ReferalGPS program that is available for all to utilize. ReferralGPS service aims to connect families to mental health treatment and support. ReferralGPS is a FREE, online service streamlining the process for families needing mental health support. This is a one-stop shop for referrals for hospitalization, therapies, services, and support.
What is ReferralGPS?
ReferralGPS is an invaluable resource that enhances our existing support systems. It serves as a comprehensive tool for students, staff, and community members to connect with local mental health and substance use treatment options. The service includes a searchable database and Care Navigation, offering assistance with triage, appointment setting, and follow-up care.
How to Access ReferralGPS:
Contact Student Services:
Reach out to the Student Services team at your Lake County school (social workers, psychologists, counselors) to explore treatment options.
Online Access:
Visit ReferralGPS Website to search for treatment resources or connect with a Care Navigator anonymously.
Key Features of ReferralGPS:
Insurance Coverage:
ReferralGPS accommodates all types of private and public insurance, including PPO, HMO, and Medicaid, and supports families who are uninsured or underinsured.
Customized Filtering:
Easily filter treatment options by age, gender, zip code, and specific requests.
Confidential and Cost-Free:
How to Get Started: If you are considering counseling-related services, take the first step by visiting ReferralGPS or contacting your Student Services team. Please visit the ReferralGPS website for more information and use the following links to learn more.
Here are some additional information that families can access over the summer.
Ways to Get Treatment Without Health Insurance:
Emergency care: In an emergency, all emergency departments that participate in Medicare (which is most hospitals in the U.S.) are legally required to see you, even if you’re not able to pay them
Federally-funded health centers provide care regardless of whether your insurance covers them or whether you’re able to pay. Many of these centers include mental health services.
Find a clinic through the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics
Medical/non-mental health (children’s health care, dental care, eye care, women’s health): Free Clinic Directory locator by zip code
Helpwhenyouneedit.org and 211.org search your zip code for local resources, including affordable health clinics, housing, food, heating assistance, etc. In many places, you can also dial 211 from your phone for information on local resources.
Finding a Mental Health Community:
Warmline directory by state: Non-crisis, emotional and preventive care support over the phone
NAMI helpline: Call 800-950-6264 Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 10:00 pm ET for mental health resources or email info@nami.org
Crisis Text Line: Text “NAMI” to 741741 to chat with a trained crisis counselor Free 24/7 text line for those in crisis (English only)
National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: Text or Call 988 to access the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline 24/7.
The Trevor Project Resources: Call (866) 488-7386, Instant Message a counselor on their website, or text “START” to 678678 24/7
The Trevor Project is a national organization offering support, including suicide prevention, for LGBTQ youth and their friends
TrevorSpace: Online international peer-to-peer community
If your family needs support over the summer, please consider utilizing ReferralGPS, a free service that assists families in securing mental health services or accessing other online resources. We wish all families a safe, healthy, and relaxed summer.
