Ducks Update
Back to School Edition
September 26, 2024
Note from Ms. de Boom-Howard
Dear Students and Families,
Thank you so much for taking time to attend our goal-setting conferences this past week. I hope the discussions were insightful and helped you gain a deeper understanding of your child's progress and set goals for the year. These conferences are such an important opportunity for us to align our efforts—parents, students, and teachers—as we all play a role in helping each child reach their full potential. By working together and recognizing that we each hold an important piece of the puzzle, we can create a supportive and engaging environment for our students to thrive.
Your involvement is invaluable, and I look forward to continuing this partnership throughout the school year.
Go Ducks!

Important Information
New Math Program K-5
NMUSD adopted a new math program for our students in K-5. Grades 6-8 have been using Illustrative Math (IM) since the Fall of 2018. IM Math is a problem-based core curriculum designed to address content and practice standards to foster learning for all. Students learn by doing math, solving problems in mathematical and real-world contexts, and constructing arguments using precise language. Teachers can shift their instruction and facilitate student learning with high-leverage routines to guide learners to understand and make connections between concepts and procedures. A Note from the Health Office
Lice Prevention and Protocol
With the return to school we typically see students experiencing Lice. Please take a moment to read through the Lice Letter from the health office about prevention and treatment. And while we know that Lice can give us all the heebie-jeebies, rest assured that they are not considered a health risk. Lice Prevention and Protocol
School Site Council
Voting for the parent representatives for School Site Council closes Friday morning at 8 am. If you haven’t voted please do so today! Click here. Thank you!
Battery Recycling
It’s time for Costa Mesa Sanitary District’s Battery Recycling Contest! Each year, schools collect batteries for recycling and earn money for their school at the same time! Please help us by sending in your used batteries to add to the box.
Breakfast and Lunch Menus
Breakfast and lunch continue to be free for all students. Please review the menus with your children for days they want to get lunch from our cafeteria. You can also set up an automatic email to have them emailed to you each week!!
