Principal's Update
There are two events I hope you'll consider attending:
(1) The Back to School Picnic, sponsored by the EHSA (Edgewood Home and School Association) tonight (Friday, September 8th, 5-7pm). It's a wonderful opportunity to meet staff and other families in a casual setting. One of the things that makes Edgewood special is that we are a close knit community. Come, get to know one another, and become a part of it. You're welcome, even if you haven't yet RSVPd. If you'd like pizza, please bring $5 cash.
(2) The 1st EHSA Meeting this coming Tuesday, September 12th, 6:30-7:30pm in the Edgewood Library. In addition to learning about what the EHSA is supporting and how they're fundraising (cool and new!!), I'll share a bit about our school growth goal. This year, we continue to focus on improving our reading instruction. There has been a lot of brain science research over the past several years, and we've been working to make sure that what and how we teach aligns with the current research. This coming Tuesday, I'll share what we're doing at school and what you can do at home to help make sure your child becomes a proficient reader.
Also, if you haven't yet registered in Parent Square, please do so. It's an important mode of communication for school. You should have an invitation in your email from Parent Square. (If you don't see it, check your spam or junk folder).

EHSA Update
Our Back to school picnic will kick off our new fundraising campaign of “Elevating the outside the classroom learning experience” as well as showcase our NEW SCHOOL SIGN!
We are working this year on supporting teachers as they plan bigger trips for outside the classroom learning! These new trips will be more involved, more intentional, and will focus on what each classroom has been busy learning! Such new and bigger trips include a 4th grade trip to the Capitol, a trip to Chicago’s museums, a whole day experience with First Stage Theatre Company and more!
All of our fundraising efforts for the year funds these trips! These trips could not happen without the support of EHSA and all volunteers and parents!
Our first Fundraising event will be a Fun Run that will take place Oct. 13th, of which we will introduce a new online fundraising portal platform called “Get Movin’ - Funhub pledge system.” It’s an easy, stress free way to help spread the word and raise money towards our new goal! (More details to come soon!)
We also have a Fall Dance planned for Nov. 4th, and so much more!
Please join us on Tuesday 9/12 from 6:30-7:15 for our next EHSA meeting! Learn more how you can help this year! We encourage all parents and caregivers to attend! Can’t wait to see you there! Child care will be provided!
NEW EHSA BOARD:
