The Weekly Update #4
October 24th, 2024
This time of year encourages us to reflect on what we appreciate in our lives, forging connections with those around us. Our school mascot, the wolf, symbolizes strength and unity, reminding us that we are all part of a larger pack.
WJPS has been bustling with activities and events, and we are excited to share that November is set to be a full and engaging month. Please keep an eye on our calendar for important dates, events, and activities!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Progress Reports for Term 1, Marking Period 1 are available on parent New York City Schools Accounts (NYCSA) and for students in TeachHub under "documents."
Here are the dates for Parent Teacher Conferences:
Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and
Friday, November 22, 2024 from 12:25 pm to 2:25 pm.
All conferences are virtual, on Google Meets. Appointments must be made in advance, on a DOE approved program we are using called PTC Wizard. Even if you used PTC Wizard last year, you will need to create a new account. Here are the instructions for making appointments: https://secure.smore.com/n/hsf5k
Once you make your appointments, an email is sent to you with your appointments and links. Please check your spam folder if you do not have this email. You can also log back into the program on the day of your conferences and click on the links next to the teachers’ names a few minutes before your meeting time. You will be in the “waiting room” until the teacher lets you in.
I will have my own Google Meet, and you can join me there: https://meet.google.com/eav-tbrh-jgk
Friday, November 22 is a half day of school and students will be dismissed at 11:15 am.
If you have any questions or need more information, please email me at HReed2@schools.nyc.gov
November 20 is Picture Day for grades 6, 7, 9, 10, 11
Picture Day for students in grades 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 will be during the school day on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. Ordering forms have been distributed.
8th grade will have their picture day on December 18, 2024 (more information to come).
We take everyone's picture for the yearbook. Students must be in uniform. Purchasing a picture package is optional. If you decide to purchase a package, please make sure your child brings the form and payment to school on picture day and gives it to the photographer. Teachers do not collect the forms.
NHS Food Drive November 12 - 27
The National Honor Society annual Food Drive is November 12 to November 27, 2024. By participating in the food drive, we can demonstrate the kindness and generosity that define our school community. Together, we can make a meaningful difference and embody the spirit of our wolf pack. Let's unite in this effort to bring warmth and hope to those in need this holiday season.
International Feast
We are excited to announce our annual International Feast is on Wednesday, November 27th! This beloved tradition brings our community together to celebrate the rich diversity of our school through a day filled with delicious food, culture, and connection.
We invite students to bring in a prepared dish that represents your family’s heritage and traditions. Whether it’s a savory entrée (pasta dishes, salads, dumplings, noodles, etc.) a sweet treat (pies, cakes, brownies, cookies, etc.) - every contribution helps make this feast special. For those unable to provide food, other items like napkins, cups, cutlery, or beverages are also welcome and appreciated.
We do not have the ability to heat up food so please make sure dishes are heated up beforehand. Also please make sure food is stored in disposable containers, we cannot guarantee the return of any glassware, Tupperware, serving utensils, etc.
Please include an index card with the student's name, the name of the dish, and a list of ingredients used.
We’re also thrilled to welcome back WJPS alumni for the day! It’s a wonderful opportunity for former students to reconnect with teachers and friends while joining us in celebrating!
Talent Show Try Outs Coming Up
The Talent Show will be Friday, December 20, 2024 During School Hours
We are excited to announce that tryouts are coming up for the Annual WJPS Talent Show! This event offers a wonderful opportunity for students to highlight their unique abilities, boost their confidence, and celebrate their creativity within our supportive school community.
If your child enjoys singing, dancing, playing an instrument, or any other performance art, we encourage them to try out. Participating in the talent show (behind the scenes positions are available) is a memorable experience that allows students to express themselves and have fun while making lasting memories with their peers.
If your child is interested, please encourage them to sign up for auditions. We can’t wait to see what our talented students bring to the stage this year!
