From the Desk of Mr. Moretti.....
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
Crashing through Day 100! Going strong heading into February Break. Maybe Snow, Tuesday??
Buckle up, stay seated, and keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .....
~ Lunch ~
Our Cafe workers would like us to share the following...
It is difficult to prepare the correct lunch amounts when numbers change. We can not change orders once they are entered. Please help your child understand that once they place their order, they must eat that meal.
Also, if a student arrives to school late (after 10:00 am), the only Cafe option available will be Sun Butter Sandwich.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
~ Spirit Day ~
THIS Wednesday, 2/14, is Valentine's Day. It will also be a Spirit Day!
Everyone should wear Red or Pink with Hearts and/or a Positive Message.
~ Kindergarten Registration 2024/2025 ~
Kindergarten Registration for the upcoming school year (2024/2025) has begun. It is earlier this year due to the new State Law requiring students to be 5 by September 1 (as opposed to December 31).
We had one day of Registration already (2/7) with two more this week (2/13 & 2/14).
If you have a student ready for Kindergarten, please go to the District Website and Register. If your child turns 5 between Sept-Dec, you can ask for a screening to see if they are ready for Kindergarten. If not, there is a pilot District Program for the students in this birthday range. Encourage anyone you know with a child ready for Kindergarten to Register NOW!
Click HERE for a letter from the District with more information.
If you have any questions, you can call our main office (203)426-7666.

~ Health Lessons ~
Grades 3 & 4
Newtown School Public Schools strive to support the health and wellness of all students by providing age-appropriate physical and health education instruction that will lead to a lifetime of healthy behaviors. Beginning this year, we will begin integrating concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention into our physical education classes. This shift will begin with third and fourth grades and will be rolled out in other grades in the future.
In 2021, the Connecticut State Department of Education released The Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework which outlines how integrating health education and physical education can have a significant impact on the overall well-being of the whole child. In light of this, it makes sense that our health education instruction be shifted to our physical education classes, especially considering that most of our physical education teachers are also certified health education teachers.
This year we will be covering the following essential health content in our third and fourth grade physical education classes:
Physical Activity (dimensions of health & benefits of exercise)
Healthy Eating (food groups & benefits of healthful eating habits)
Optimal Wellness (personal health care & benefits of hygiene)
Disease Prevention (communicable and non-communicable disease, ways to prevent disease)
Safety and Injury Prevention
Goal-setting (short-term & long term goals)
Body Systems (Grades 3 & 4 - skeletal, muscular, circulatory, respiratory, nervous, digestive, immune, and integumentary systems.)
Body Systems (Grade 4 Only - Puberty - Prior to this lesson being taught in the spring, a preview of what will be taught will be emailed and parents/guardians have the right to opt their child out of this instruction.)
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
~ Tutoring ~
Your child may be eligible for up to 16 sessions of 1:1 tutoring at no cost to you. Click HERE for more information.
