The Riverwalk Roar
The Riverwalk Roar: September 8, 2024
Happy Sunday, Pride!
I hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable weekend. My family and I took it easy, with the highlight being a high school swim meet on Saturday.
As you may have heard, September is School Attendance Awareness Month, and here at Riverwalk Academy, we are dedicated to building a culture of consistent and engaged learning. Whether your child is in kindergarten or high school, regular attendance is one of the most critical factors for their academic success. Every day in school presents an opportunity for growth, learning, and achievement.
Being present in the classroom is essential for students to stay on track with new concepts, build essential skills, and remain connected with their peers. Missing even a few days can lead to gaps in understanding that can make it challenging for students to keep up with their classmates. Over time, these gaps can become harder to bridge.
For our youngest learners, showing up regularly helps them establish strong routines and develop social and emotional skills that will benefit them throughout their academic journey. As students get older, consistent attendance becomes even more important as they face increasingly demanding coursework. Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more likely to earn higher grades, stay on track to graduate, and develop the skills they need for future success, whether in college or the workforce.
We know that illnesses and emergencies happen, but we encourage families to prioritize school attendance as much as possible. Arriving on time and ready to learn helps create a positive, productive learning environment for everyone.
Let’s work together to ensure that all our students are present, engaged, and ready to learn. When students show up for school, they are showing up for their future. Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s success!
In Pride and Purpose,
~Dr. Compton

Attendance Awareness Month
Your partnership is key in ensuring that your child is ready and eager to attend school each day. Here are a few tips that can help:
• Set a regular bedtime: A good night’s sleep makes waking up and getting to school easier.
• Prepare the night before: Laying out clothes and packing lunches in advance can make mornings smoother.
• Encourage a positive attitude: Remind your child of the exciting things they’ll learn and the friends they’ll see at school.
Every day counts, and together, we can help your child achieve their best.
