Bordeaux Elementary School
October 6, 2024
Dear Families,
As we fully enter the Fall months, conferences are quickly approaching. Starting on Tuesday, teachers will begin scheduling conferences for October 22-24. That entire week, students will be released at 12:30, so please plan accordingly.
This Friday, October 11, students will also be released at 12:30 so that teachers can participate in a professional development to better serve students needs in the areas of independent reading and writing.
Speaking of reading, students should be bringing home book bags from their classroom libraries. These books are specifically selected so that students can read them independently. Students will also often bring home what we call decodables. These are paper books that offer practice on phonics based strategies and skills. All decodables are first used in the classroom, so when they are brought home they can be used as extra practice. It’s helpful to provide students at least 20 minutes of reading a night. This can be independent reading or reading that you share together. If you are able, find a nice quiet spot for students to engage in their stories and ask them about what they’ve read.
October is Bully Prevention Month and our continued goal is providing students a Safe, Respectful, and Responsible environment here at Bordeaux. On Wednesday, October 9 we will be having our first school-wide assembly of the year. The NED Show (Never Give up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best) will be returning to Bordeaux to provide an exciting opportunity to weave these themes into their performance. Students will have follow-up lessons the week of Oct. 14 with Mr. Myers, Mrs. Omdahl, and Mr. Wirzbicki. Yoyos , which are part of the performance, will also be available for sale. A flyer will be coming home tomorrow outlining the information on how to purchase them.
Last Friday night the Bordeaux PTSO sponsored Books-N-Bingo here at Bordeaux Elementary. A very well attended crowd of families participated and enjoyed many rounds of BINGO, books, and food. Mrs. Beutel did a wonderful job as our BINGO caller and many of our Bordeaux Elementary staff were present to help with the event. We again want to thank our PTSO who will be providing many more activities throughout the year. Our next Books-N-Bingo will be Friday, Jan. 24th. So if you missed this one we looked forward to seeing you at the next one in January.
That’s all for now and as always, it’s a great week to be a Bordeaux Bulldog!
