Florida High Happenings
Grades 9-12: February 2025
Principal's Message
Dear High School Families,
As we enter the second month of the year, I want to take a moment to express my appreciation for the continued support and involvement of our school community. February is always a time to reflect on the progress we've made, both academically and personally, and to celebrate the achievements of our students.
We have seen remarkable growth in our classrooms, and I am proud of the dedication our students are showing towards their studies. As we move forward, I encourage our students to maintain their focus and continue working hard to finish the semester strong. Progress reports were just emailed on 2/5, so please review those and encourage your student to connect with their teachers if there are any questions.
This month, we will be celebrating a variety of important events and activities, including Valentine's Day/Kindness activities, Black History Month celebrations, SAT Day, athletic signing days and academic competitions. These events are not only great opportunities for our students to learn and grow, but they also help foster a sense of community within our school.
Please continue to support your childโs learning at home. Whether it's reviewing homework, engaging in meaningful conversations about their day, or encouraging them to participate in after-school activities, your involvement makes a significant difference in their success.
Warm regards,
Megan Brink
High School Principal

Attendance Reminder--- Please check FOCUS
Please take a moment to check FOCUS for your student's attendance. We have a busy campus with busy students! Please double check your student's attendance to verify that all absences that should be excused are excused. Not only do we want accurate attendance records, but this also impacts your student's ability to participate in the exam exemption at the end of the year. If you need an attendance correction, please contact attendance@fsus.school.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dreamers and Doers Winners!
Afolabomi Ibilaiye
Afolabomi is a natural leader both inside and outside the classroom. Academically, he excels in our Math Accelerated Program (MAP) as well as our other coursework. He is also active in our school community as a member of the National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS), art club, and Singing Seminoles. Most impactful, though, is who Afolabomi is as a person. He is the student who is always quietly being helpful: cleaning up something you left behind, organizing materials for an absent student, helping a student open the stuck zipper on his backpack without asking for any recognition. He is incredibly well liked by his peers with no shortage of friends who adore him, but also always willing to reach out to someone new or be there for someone in need of a partner. He has the perfect balance of empathy, heart, and ideas to be a โdreamerโ as well as the problem solving, critical thinking skills, and motivation to act to be a โdoer.โ
Legend Sands
What truly sets Legend apart is his empathy and thoughtfulness. He consistently demonstrates kindness and understanding, whether supporting his peers or offering help. He pays attention to the small details and is considerate in how he helps others, making him a trusted friend and a natural leader.
Legend admires his two older brothers, both athletes who inspire him with their dedication and drive. His father, a coach, has taught him the importance of discipline and hard work, not just in sports, but in life. For Legend, true health is about more than strength โ itโs about building resilience, inside and out.
Above all, Legend has a huge heart and cares deeply for his family and friends. Heโs always been concerned for others, offering guidance, love, and encouragement. Legend does whatโs right, even when itโs not the easy choice, standing firm in his values and never following the crowd.
Legend Sands leads with heart, empathy, and perseverance. He is an excellent model of being both a dreamer and a doerโsomeone who inspires through action and shows that true leadership comes from within.
Khloe Woodson
Khloe Woodson has been a member of the Florida State University School family for nine years. Khloe is a passionate student known for her compassion and caring attitude for everyone she comes in contact with.
Khloe is a member of our National Junior Honor Society and through her role in this prestigious organization is able to exemplify many of the ideals and beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Khloe is also a competitive dancer and uses this opportunity to be a positive role model for the younger dancers in her dance troupe.
Khloe has a remarkable ability to lead by example. Khloe has a genuine desire to make the world a better place. Much like Dr. Kingโs vision of a โbeloved communityโ, Khloe fosters an environment where collaborations and mutual respect are at the forefront of everything she does.
Khloe embodies Dr. Kingโs belief that โwe must learn to live together as brothers and sisters, or perish together as fools.โ Khloe fosters understanding and brings others together in ways that are truly remarkable.
It is a privilege to work with such an inspiring young person, and I look forward to seeing the many ways Khloe will continue to contribute to the betterment of our community and beyond.
Gabrielle Bowden
Gabrielle Bowden, who the school affectionately calls Gabby, is a passionate and dedicated student at Florida State University School, known for her commitment to the ideals and beliefs of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As a member of the Yearbook Committee, Gabrielle plays a vital role in capturing and celebrating the value of her school community. She is committed to ensuring that every studentโs story is told and represented, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity. Gabrielle creativity shines as she seeks to showcase the achievements and diversity of her classmates.
In her role with the Key Club, Gabrielle exemplifies the spirit of service that Dr. King held dear. She actively participates in various community service initiatives, working alongside her peers to make a positive impact both locally and beyond. Gabbyโs leadership and enthusiasm for giving back encourage others to join in her efforts.
Gabbyโs commitment to exemplifying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.โs ideals not only enriches her own life but also inspires those around her. Gabbyโs efforts both inside the classroom and through her extracurricular activities serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for her peers, highlighting the power of one individual to effect positive change.
