SCS Newsletter 1/1/24:
The New Year Edition!
From the Principal's Desk:
Dear Salisbury Families:
Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a nice break, and enjoyed the holidays with people you cared about. My family stuck around home over break, had a few relatives over, took in some good MUHS Tiger sports games, and my kids did a little skiing. The weather has been weird, of course, but a lot less dramatic than it was this time last year! It will be fun to see everyone back together at school on Tuesday- on to 2024!
Even as we look forward, it's fun to look back and remember our last two events of 2023 at Salisbury Community School- the Holiday Dollar Store and All-School Skating. Both events went off without a hitch, and it took the efforts of a lot of folks on and behind the scenes to get everything done. A special "Thank You" to our FOSCS members for their volunteer work, especially setting up, managing, and wrapping the Holiday Dollar Store gifts. Also, a hearty thanks to our Assistant Librarian Nancy Velez for spearheading so much of our Holiday Dollar Store Work. A special "thank you", as well, to Christina Sheldrick and Austin Bowdish for working together to provide the zip-tied milk crates for skating- we had just enough! And finally, thanks to all the parents who tied skates and showed support for all the kids at skating- you helped make it tons of fun!
No big events in the near future for students at SCS, as we get back into the school routine. For parents and caregivers, though, we will have parent-teacher conferences coming up soon- so look for more details from your child's teacher. Also, progress reports will be mailed out the 12th- so you should see them soon after.
But the big thing to announce here is our new Salisbury Community School online store- look below for a link!
Have a great week, and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Information on Progress Reports and Parent-Teacher Conferences
This winter we will be holding parent-teacher conferences between January 16th and February 9th. These are times for families to meet with teachers to discuss their child's January progress report. Teachers are just now putting the finishing touches on a revised progress report that will show student progress towards grade level standards and the IB Approaches to Learning. Report cards will be sent home on January 12th. Teachers will be reaching out in early January to set up conference dates and times for all families. Thank you.
Please send kids in with the "High Five" of Winter Clothes!
We know it hasn't been that cold lately, but please always send students in with the "High 5" of winter clothing, especially as days can still be plenty cold even without snow:
- Boots
- Hat
- Gloves
- Jacket
- Snowpants
SCS went skating!
Thank you to the Memorial Sports Center and MSC manager Rick Marshall for hosting us! We had a great time. Thanks for parents for all of your excellent planning around helmets, pick-up, etc. Everybody's efforts made the whole event work really well, and kids had what they needed. And yay for long socks!
