4th Grade
Literacy:
Writing Short Stories was a big hit this week!!! I am very excited for all of you to see your child’s work at conferences next week. Though we have discussed many of the basic rules of editing, you will see their own application in their writing; we will continue to work on this throughout the rest of the school year.
Math:
This week we worked on adding and subtracting numbers into the 100,000’s using expanded form and the standard algorithm. Tomorrow we will be taking our Unit 4 Assessment on “Hundreths to Hundred-Thousands.” Next week we will begin Unit 7: “Angles and Angle Measurement.” We will be combining this unit with Unit 8: “Properties of Two-Dimensional Shapes” which we will continue after conferences.
Example of standard algorithm: 2,834 – 1,291
Example of expanded form: 2,000 + 800 + 30 + 4 – 1,000 + 200 + 90 + 1
Science:
This week we wrapped up the rocks and minerals unit. Students shared a slide show they created based on types of rocks. We also took some time to review our upcoming states and capitals for the Southwest Region test. The test is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 04.
