2 - OSSLT
In Grade 10, students will take the OSSLT. The OSSLT is based on the expectations for literacy (reading and writing) across all subjects in the Ontario Curriculum up to the end of Grade 9. These skills are the basis for learning in all subject areas in both middle and secondary school. At St. Marcellinus, we are proud to have 2 OSSLT committees that start preparing our students for the OSSLT in their Grade 9 year.

Navigating Your Way to Success
- Recognize that there are many pathways to a destination.
- Select a pathway that is realistic for YOU.
- Success looks different for each individual.
- Review and revise your plans regularly.
- Relax! It’s okay not knowing what you want to be. You will figure it out. You have the time.
- Focus on the process. It will be your foundation for continued learning and discovery.
- Be flexible! There are no wrong choices.
- Find and explore your resources.
- Anticipate and look for future trends.
- Plan for life-long learning.
Changing Levels and Pathways...YES, it can be done!
Also, students can start in one level and move to other levels throughout high school. For example, Grade 9 ENG1L1 to ENG1P1. A student can move from Locally Developed courses to Applied level courses. Further, a student can move from Applied level courses to Academic Level courses.
It is always a good idea to consult with your child's guidance counsellor to discuss your child's level and pathway planning.
