Please welcome our new Head Custodian, Angel Piñedo. Angel comes to us with many years of experience as a head custodian at Hueneme and Haycox. He is excited to join the Parkview team.

This week is National Counselor's Week! Join me in thanking Mr. Cortez for all he does for our students and community. Let students know as well, so they can take part in thanking him.

Our first Family Math Night was a huge success! Not only did about 775 people enjoy a delicious dinner from In 'N Out, but families also had fun learning fun math games and activities that they could do at home. A huge thanks goes to our Math Night committee and to all who helped to make this evening special.

We have a lockdown practice drill scheduled for February 13th. We are not announcing the time or type of lockdown so that we may practice in a more real life situation. If the lockdown happens during a recess, all children should go to the nearest open room. Adults should stay where they are and take in nearby children. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you to all of our staff and students on the Leadership Council who helped to make our first Kindness Week a success at Parkview. Many people enjoyed receiving notes of gratitude and the activities such as the photo opportunity were so much fun.

We are so excited to finally have Phase 2 of our Schoolyard Habitat planted. The first native habitat contains native species that serve as a habitat for butterflies and pollinators. Teachers can use this outdoor classroom any time for all kinds of lessons from data gathering in math and science, to art, to writing. Phase 2 of our habitat under the eucalyptus trees on the southeast corner of campus is comprised of plants that were commonly used by the Chumash including some species from the Channel Islands. It is also a habitat for local wildlife. We will be working on signage to help students identify the plants as they use them in various lessons. We hope you all enjoy and make use of these outdoor spaces.
