A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Saludades Compadres,
As we begin the month of our country’s birthday, we have many things to celebrate including state championships for the Lineman Challenge and 7-on-7 Tournament along with making it through the first month of strength and conditioning camp. As you prepare for the upcoming year in the hopes having a successful 2024 football season, make sure you continue to make time for the your most important team, your FAMILY.
This month brings an end to my term as president of the association. As this being my last president message, I want to take this time to begin a tradition I ask future presidents to carry on beginning now until indemnity. This will be called THE PRESIDENT’S ODE. I want to begin this ode by first acknowledging all the great Hispanic coaches who came before us to build a lane for us to have opportunities in this great profession. I know in the three prior years of our existence where we had lanes, we have began to build roads. For the future presidents, let’s make those roads and build highways where we will plan and navigate a journey to reach the goals set out for the members of our organization.
Next, I want to acknowledge Ruben Garcia, Sergio Gonzales, Cirilo Ojeda, and Marco Regalado, the founding members of our association who had a dream to begin an organization to serve Hispanic Coaches. They made that dream become a reality as we are now over 1,500 members strong. We all salute these four men for starting our association 🙏🙏🙏. Additionally, I want to acknowledge original board members of our association including Joe Castillo, Cirilo Ojeda, Sergio Gonzales, Isaac Rodriguez, Roberto Vega, and Matthew Manning. I want to thank them for having the trust in me to serve as the first president of the association. Their knowledge, leadership, guidance, and friendship made these last three years very unforgettable. I know we did not achieve all our goals, but we have a great start to build upon for the future. I will cherish all the memories.
I leave the next leadership with this thought. ALWAYS BE UNITED AS A TEAM. That will allow this organization to surpass the goals the visionaries set out to accomplish. Last but not least, to my most cherished team my family, Wife Idell, Tisha, AJ, and Velencia, thanks for your undying support and I hope I made you proud as I am proud of being your husband, father, and family Jefe.
July will be the fifth and final installment of our Soft Skills discussion. This month's topic will be Mentorship, which follows the previous four installments of March-Humility, April-Self Awareness, May-Emotional Intelligence, and June-Communication. Mentorship I left for last because as in a timeout, the last thing said is what will be remembered. Have a circle of people you trust and confide in who can be truthful with you, that will help you grow, and have your best interest at heart. This circle should consist of people that are successful and have led in other realms, not just coaches. This gives different perspectives from different career roles in society.
When deciding on a mentor, look for these criteria:
1. Do they want to mentor?
2. Do they know how to mentor?
3. Are they selfless, not envious of your success?
4. Have been where you want to go, someone from whom you would seek advice?
If you still cannot find anyone, feel free to reach out me at adjacinto00@gmail.com. My circle is a big reason I was able to achieve and surpass most of my career goals. As all of us work towards achieving success, we have all heard that it’s not “what you know, but who you know.” Well through my experiences, I believe this quote is more truthful. “It’s Not Who You Know, But Who Knows You.”
I want to communicate to you the following announcements:
-Please sign up HERE to give of your time to man our booth at coaching school.
-Attend the 4th Annual Social Monday July 22 at Smoke-You know it will be 🔥🔥🔥! Best Social at coaching school
-Expect a big announcement regarding our social coming soon.
In closing thanks to all for your support of my leadership and our organization! Good luck this year and remember to LIFT AS YOU CLIMB!
As Always Nos Vemos,
Armando Jacinto
