A Message From Mr. Longacre...
Dear WIS Family,
At Westchester Intermediate School, we strive to ensure every child has the tools they need to succeed. I’d like to share some accessibility features available on your child’s iPad, which can provide valuable support for their learning experience.
Apple’s accessibility tools are designed to meet the needs of all learners, whether it’s reading text aloud, magnifying the screen, adjusting display settings, or offering speech-to-text capabilities. These features can help students who may need additional support with reading, writing, or accessing digital content.
I encourage you to explore these tools with your child to see how they can benefit from using them both in school and at home. You can click here to learn more about the various accessibility features and how they may assist your child in their education.
As always, please reach out to me anytime.
Mr. Longacre

Language Arts
Last week, our class welcomed Mark Marimen to talk about the writing process, the love of stories, and to share some of his spooky stories. Mr. Marimen then led a brainstorming session, and challenged students to write their own spooky story. Students created plot charts to map out their writing, and turned those charts into stories. We then shared our stories with our classmates.
Math
Students are continuing to work with decimal number sense: place value, rounding, ordering and comparing. Counting money (pennies, dimes and dollars) is a great way to practice working with decimals. Next week, students will take a CSA on Decimal Number Sense and Place Value. It will be the first test grade of quarter 2. Students are still taking the retakes from previous tests and grades will be updated to include those scores for quarter 1 report cards next week.
Social Studies
Last week, we read the final lesson in our first unit. Students learned about different explorers from Europe, and where in North America they explored. This week, we will be reviewing the first unit and taking our 3rd CSA. Students can review lessons 4 and 5, including vocabulary, to prepare for the CSA.
