RS Weekly Update - September 8th, 2024 🐴
First Week of School: A Success! 🎉
We made it through the first week of school! A huge thank you to our students, staff, and families for helping us kick off the school year on such a positive note. It’s been wonderful to see the energy and excitement in the hallways as everyone settles into their routines.
- Locker Practice: We know that getting the hang of lockers can be challenging for some students, but there's no need to worry! We'll continue to practice and support our students as they learn to manage their lockers with confidence. Perseverance is key, and we’re proud of the effort everyone is putting in. Our goal is 100% independent locker success come October!
- Chromebook Responsibility: A friendly reminder to students to bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged each day, along with their chargers. This is an important part of being prepared for learning, and we appreciate your cooperation in making sure students are ready to go each morning.
- Water Bottles Only: To keep our classrooms clean and focused, please make sure students bring only water in their reusable water bottles—Juice can be saved for lunch! This helps us maintain a safe and distraction-free learning environment.
Let’s keep up the great work as we head into Week 2! Be sure to check out the rest of the newsletter for important updates, upcoming events, and more!
Attendance Matters: Every Day Counts! 🌟
Regular attendance is essential for your child's success in school. Being present every day helps students keep up with their learning, build strong relationships with their peers and teachers, and develop good habits that last a lifetime.
If your child is going to be absent, please make sure to notify the school as soon as possible. Let’s work together to ensure our students are here, on time, and ready to learn each day. Remember, every day counts!

September Focus:
This month, our class lessons are centered on helping students feel safe, supported, and empowered as they begin the new school year. Here’s what we’re working on:
- Introducing the School Counselor: We’re helping students understand the role of the school counselor and how they can access support whenever they need it.
- Reviewing Calm Corner Materials: We’ll explore our Calm Corner, a space where students can practice self-regulation using tools and strategies designed to help them manage their emotions.
- Discussing Safe Spaces: We’ll talk about school as a safe place and our minds as a safe space, reinforcing the importance of mental and emotional safety.
- Practicing Deep Breathing: Through a series of exercises, students will learn different ways to calm their minds and bodies, promoting a sense of peace and focus.
Our goal is to equip students with the tools they need to navigate the school year with confidence and resilience. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to support your child every step of the way!

Arrival/Dismissal Routines & Procedures 🚗
Arrival & Dismissal: Smooth Transitions and Safety First 🚸
As we settle into our school routines, we want to ensure that arrival and dismissal times are as smooth and safe as possible for everyone. Here are a few important reminders for parents and guardians:
Use the Crosswalk: For the safety of all students and families, please always use the crosswalk when crossing the street. This helps keep our students safe and sets a good example for them to follow.
Pickup Procedures: When picking up your child on North 4th Ave., please stand on either side of the sidewalk and wait for your child to be dismissed. Teachers need to see you and give a quick wave before sending your child to the crosswalk. This helps us ensure that each student is safely connected with their parent or guardian.
Avoid Crowding: To keep the flow of students and families moving smoothly, we kindly ask that you refrain from crowding the arrival, dismissal sidewalks, and drop/go areas. This allows everyone to move through these busy times efficiently and safely.
Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us maintain a safe and orderly environment for all of our students. Let’s work together to make each day’s arrival and dismissal a success!
Daily Arrival Procedures
Students attending the breakfast program should arrive no earlier than 8:25 AM and are to enter the building immediately upon arrival on the North 4th Avenue side of the building. A staff member will be at the door at 8:25 AM. Students should report directly to the Multipurpose Room (MPR). All other students should report at 8:35 AM.
During arrival, all students will be required to enter the building using the North 4th Avenue entrance. Parents may utilize the school side of North 4th Avenue as a “Drop & Go”. Students can be dropped off as soon as they are on the school sidewalk. Parents are asked to immediately and safely pull away. Parents SHOULD NOT be waiting for their child to enter the building in the “Drop & Go” line. All other parents should utilize the gravel parking lot between North 3rd & 4th to park and walk their child to the crossing guard.
Doors will close promptly at 8:45 AM. Any student arriving to school after 8:45 AM will be marked late and must be signed in by a parent/guardian to the Main Office on North 5th Avenue.
All students are required to immediately enter the building upon arrival.
Students should NOT be dropped off to the school playground in the mornings or on the North 4th Ave. side of the building before 8:25 AM. There is NO SUPERVISION of children prior to 8:25 AM OR AFTER 3:20 PM.
Daily Dismissal Procedures
Students will be dismissed between 3:10 PM and 3:20 PM.
Students may only exit the building from the North 4th Avenue doors.
Parents/Guardians are required to pick up students from their classroom teachers at their designated area. If someone other than the parent/guardian is going to pick up please notify your child’s teacher. The adult picking up must be on the Genesis pick up list and present identification (ID).
Students will begin to be dismissed after the 3:10 PM bell. Parents should meet their children outside the building on either sidewalk. DO NOT block entrance/exit doors, stay off the dismissal blacktop area and grassy hill, and avoid blocking the stairs since this can cause a hazard for our students.
All teachers will escort their students out of the building and make sure the student connect with their ride, unless written permission to walk home or to a designated site has been documented on the arrival/dismissal form in Genesis.
If a student does not connect with an adult by 3:20 PM, they will be taken inside to a designated area. The parent will have to come to the Main Office on North 5th Avenue to sign out and pick up their child.
No student may be dismissed to a parent from a classroom. If you need to pick up a child from school prior to 3:00 PM, please contact the Main Office AND your child’s teacher. Students will need to be signed out/picked up from the Main Office.
For the safety of our students and families, it is important that you obey the No Parking signs and cross only at the corner where the Crossing Guard is stationed. Please park in the lot adjacent to North 4th Avenue.
