North Syracuse Central School District's weekly e-news
Issue #29 | June 11, 2021
Hello North Syracuse Central School District Parents, Guardians, Teachers and Staff!
This past week members of the Cicero-North Syracuse High School Class of 2021 had the opportunity to visit the schools where their history with the NSCSD began. Hundreds of students returned to their elementary schools wearing their caps and gowns to be greeted by their old school’s new youngest students and school staff. It was heartwarming to see the hugs, smiles and tears as students interacted with the teachers and building staff that helped them get to that moment. These young people are succeeding because of all of the great PEOPLE in their lives and we should all be proud to have been a part of their journeys. An album of photos from the event is available on the District's Facebook page by clicking here.
Earlier this week I sent a letter about updated masking requirements for outdoor activities. I am happy to let you know that effective immediately, students, staff and visitors will no longer be required to wear face coverings during outdoor activities while on school grounds. It has been wonderful to see so many smiling faces because of this change. If you didn't have a chance to read the letter, please click here to review it now.
Now that we're well into the month of June, I anticipate that the rest of the school year will move very quickly. We will be sending out weekly graduation updates next week. Please remember to enjoy the moments and appreciate the people around you. Stay well!
Sincerely,
Daniel D. Bowles, Superintendent of Schools
NSCSD Shining Stars
As we rapidly approach the end of the school year, we’ll be taking time to feature multiple Shining Stars each week.
For June 11 we are featuring Meghan Stasko a kindergarten teacher at Smith Road Elementary School, as Shining Star #2. When Smith Road Elementary School Principal Lyndsey Maloney heard that Meghan was being recognized as a Shining Star, she chimed in with her support. Mrs. Maloney wrote, “I’m not surprised to hear this! Meghan is a rock star teacher and mother, she definitely goes above and beyond to provide the very best for her students!”
The three students are from the Chin State in Myanmar where members of ethnic communities have often been mistreated by the government. The Chin people suffered torture, rape, forced labor, and restrictions on expression and religious freedom among other abuses. Due to these dangerous conditions, the families of the students fled their country seeking refuge in the United States.
