Southeastern Scene
Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the May 10th, 2024, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Dear Southeastern Families:
We were reflecting on the joy we find in listening to our students talk during the day, dialogue about what they are learning, what they are wondering, what they’ve discovered or what they love to play. This made us think about how much, we want to hear our own children talk about their day. We always wish we could tap into what they had experienced that day through their lens. There were so many instances where we were going about it the wrong way and we had to think more creatively. With that said, for our families that don’t always get to hear about their child’s day, or have a hard time sparking that conversation, we have some fun questions for you to ask that might encourage you so that you may tap into that beautiful dialogue with your child:
- What made you smile today?
- Share an example of kindness that you saw today. How were you kind to someone else?/How were you helpful today? How did someone help you today?
- Did anyone do anything silly today to make you laugh? What happened first? Then? Tell me more…
- Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday.
- What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
- If you could change one thing about your day what would it be?
- What made you feel loved today?
- If you switched places with your teacher tomorrow, what would you teach the class?
- Tell me about recess. What is your favorite thing to do at recess? If you could add something to the playground, what would it be?
- What would you rate your day on a scale of 1-10? Why.
- What is something you hope to learn before school ends?
- What did you discover today? What questions did you ask today? What “wonders” do you have?
- If you had a camera with you at school, what picture would you have taken? Why?
- If you could get rid of one school rule, what would it be?
- You can always encourage with, “tell me more” with any scenario.
Whether it is in the car, at the dinner table, on an evening walk, or bedtime, it is our hope that you have many memorable conversations with your child in the years to come.

Head Lice
As part of maintaining a healthy environment for all students, we would like to remind you of the importance of taking precautions against head lice. While head lice are a common occurrence in schools, with a few proactive measures, we can significantly reduce their spread. Please see the district website for the policy regarding head lice.
Ticks
Spring is a time of year when ticks are more prevalent. If kids are spending more time outdoors and in areas where exposure can occur, please consider checking your children regularly for any ticks.
