Message from the Superintendent
I speak for administrators, teachers, staff and parents of students of all ages when I say seniors have been in our hearts and on our minds since the moment our schools closed.
This week, proclaimed Senior Week in partnership with the City of Lake Oswego, was our time to celebrate our graduates and the indelible mark they've made with us. The week culminated with diploma processions at our high schools. The heartfelt and spirited events were fitting for these extraordinary times. I am proud of everyone involved in making it such a memorable ceremony.
I am most proud of our graduates, who have handled themselves with incredible grace and aplomb. Our future is bright with these young people leading our way. This week may not have been the memory they imagined, but it will always be remembered. Forever the Class of 2020 will be a part of us all.
School Board Chair Rob Wagner Elected Majority Leader in Oregon State Senate
During his three year tenure on the School Board, Rob put diversity, equity and inclusion front-in-center as part of the board's decision making process. He helped form the DEI advisory committee. Also, Rob helped pass an increase in the local option Learning Levy which helps fund nearly 15 percent of the district's operating budget.

School Board Open Position Appointment Process
The LOSD School Board is accepting applications to fill the position made open with Chair Rob Wagner's resignation. The person filling the open position will serve on the board for the next school year; the position will be up for re-election in May 2020 for a four-year term.

Applications are due Monday, June 8, by 5 p.m.
The School Board is responsible for appointing a new member to fill Position 2 on the board. Also, per tradition, the board will appoint a new chair for the 2020-2021 year.
Facilities Planning Survey Input Due Today
LOSD bond work continues during distance learning, and the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee is looking towards our future. Please harken back to when we could be inside our schools, and complete the school facility adequacy survey. Thanks for your input.
A Full Screen at the District-wide SAC Meeting
More than 120 members of our community participated in the Spring District-wide SAC meeting. Participants included members of the School Advisory Committees, as well as other board-appointed committees. Board members shared highlights from the year, and focuses for the next year. Additionally, the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services gave a status update on the budget, and the Superintendent shared learnings and planning resulting from on the pandemic.

Then, each school SAC met separately to discuss challenges and solutions in helping plans for next year. The perspectives and insights share were much appreciated. Thank you all SAC members for your service, and welcome new SAC members.
Meal Service Extending Through Summer
For the next two weeks, the schedule will remain the same. Monday and Wednesday pick up at all four schools through June 10th.
After that day, starting Monday, June 15, grab-and-go meals can be picked up once a week on Mondays, 10:30-11:30 a.m., from one location at Lake Oswego High School. Students will be able to pick up four days of meals on this single day.
LOSD is able to provide its meal service through June 29.
Verify Your Student's Info Before End of Year
LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2020-21 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you tried earlier, the ParentVUE link is working now. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student's school.
- Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement

A Half Marathon for Children
Hood-to-Coast Chairwoman and Hallinan parent has organized a fun activity for children in Lake Oswego to run or walk a total of 13.1 miles (a virtual half marathon). Participants are encouraged to spread out their miles over days and weeks to achieve the half marathon goal now through Sept. 1, 2020. Once a parent or guardian registers, kids will receive:
- PDF with helpful running and walking tips
- Running/walking miles log to keep track of your awesome accomplishments
- Super cool finisher medal!
Registration is now open for those interested. Embrace the outdoors and strength through moving.
LO Youth Advisory Recruitment
The City Council seeks your help and cooperation in selecting its youth advisory members for the 2020-2021 school year. Positions are available to current sophomores and juniors who reside within the city limits of Lake Oswego.
There are seven positions available on five advisory boards including the Historic Resources Advisory Board, Library Advisory Board, Sustainability Advisory Board, Transportation Advisory Board, and Parks, Recreation & Natural Resources Advisory Board.
Interested students should submit an application and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member from their school.
Applications can be submitted from April 20 through May 31 on the city website.
Interviews will be held on Thursday, June 11 or Saturday, June 13, with appointments made on July 7.
Clothing Closet Expands Service
I Love Lake Oswego provides clothing and essential hygiene products to people in need. It has expanded its services to everyone in the community. Families should contact the service through its website, phone or email. Provide your needs and clothing sizes. Volunteers will either deliver the items, or make arrangements for pick up.

Clackamas County Go Teams Ready to Help
Clackamas County recently developed “Go Teams.” These staff members go out into the community to help individuals and families who are struggling with anxiety, unemployment, grief and a host of other emotional and social problems that are becoming more and more common during this time.

SafeOregon
Parents who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
