Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of September 22, 2024
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families,
We have exciting updates from our Career and Technical Education program to share with you! Did you know that students can earn college credits in some of our high school classes? This week, representatives from Atlantic Cape Community College presented to our CTE classes, offering insight into the dual credit opportunities available for our students. Additionally, Mr. Brower, our dedicated CTE teacher, unveiled the robot, Eagle One, he has been building for the past three years at last weekend's EHT Community Pride Festival. Eagle One was designed to inspire and help advance our students' computer programming skills. You can read more about it in the Press of AC (https://pressofatlanticcity.com/news/local/education/eht-high-school-robot/article_0511a2a0-74a0-11ef-9389-2ba9bd5e789e.html). Finally, our Pre-Apprenticeship Program students also had an exciting opportunity to learn about careers in Energy and Natural Gas. South Jersey Gas visited our students with a complete gas truck demonstration.
On Tuesday, the Academy of Law and Business toured Citizens Bank Park and participated in a “behind the scenes” meet and greet with the Marketing department. Students were able to interact and ask questions about promotions, special events, and production as well as gain an insight into the steps needed to pursue a career in Sports Marketing. This was a tremendous opportunity for our students!
As part of our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, we welcomed guest speaker Dr. Ivonne Diaz Claisse, CEO of HISPA, who encouraged students to dream big, set goals, and take action. We are thrilled to celebrate 25 years of our Hispanohablantes program this evening! Much like English speakers study English every year in school to improve their critical thinking and literacy skills in English, Spanish speakers take Hispanohablantes classes to improve their literacy and critical thinking skills in Spanish. Our program began at the High School back in the 1998-1999 school year with approximately 26 students. Since then the program has expanded to include grades 5 -12. This year more than 425 students are taking Hispanohablantes classes.
Congratulations to our Varsity eSports team for their 2-0 victory against Kingsway in Super Smash Bros! Bryan Daniel Perez, Nathan Bortu, and Omar Stephens dominated the match, with Bryan setting the tone by sweeping the competition in the first round. Great job, team!
Our Unified Team had their first game of the season yesterday against a tough Mainland team. Their solid defense and teamwork led them to a successful match.
Special shout out to freshmen Jackie Brownlee who was named by the EHT Philly Pretzel Factory Athlete of the Week. Brownlee leads the 6-0 Eagles’ girls soccer team with 12 goals.
We also had an amazing Spirit Week! Our underclassmen have shown incredible enthusiasm, but we’re encouraging our seniors to step up their game. Currently, the Class of 2028 is in first place in the Battle of the Classes after Week 1!
Please help us support the Tyler Wechsler Foundation by participating in the upcoming Pickleball Tournament on Sunday, October 13 at ProShot Pickleball in the Boscov's shopping center. September Faculty of the Month
Congratulations to Mr. Walter who was selected as our September Faculty of the Month! Students selected Mr. Walter because he, "is funny, nice, entertaining and always has a lot of energy." We couldn't agree more!
Deaf Awareness Month
Hello all. September is Deaf Awareness month. I thought it would be nice to include some Deaf Awareness info in our schools' newsletters throughout the month of September. Not sure exactly how you'd want to do it, so I'm starting out by sharing these slides with facts about deafness, tips on how to communicate with deaf friends, etc. Let me know if you need anything else from me.

#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander. Hit "play" below and see for yourself! 🤩
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
