Classroom Cleaning
BGC IPAD Usage
A Designated BGC instructor will come to your room between 4:30-4:50 to get the iPads. They will return the IPads at the end of each evening, ensuring that they are plugged in and charging. Here is the schedule of when your IPads will be used:
Monday - Kindergarten and 3rd Grade
Tuesday- 1st Grade
Wednesday- 2nd Grade
Thursday- 4th and 5th Grade
BGC will start using IPads on Monday, September 9th.

PTO Teacher Wish List Due October 1st
Please use this FORM to request wish list items for your classroom that aren’t otherwise stocked in the office or provided by the district. You may request items that you will need this semester or plan ahead for next semester. We may not be able to fund every item that is requested, so please place a priority number next to each item.
Print and return this form to Joni by October 1st!
This form MUST be filled out COMPLETELY to be considered!
You will be notified if your items were approved on Wednesday, October 9th.
Field Trip Reminder
Field trip form. The maximum amount parents can be charged fora field trip entry fee is $6.00. If you have an entry fee that is more than $6.00 you can request additional funding from PTO by emailing ksdeerfieldpto@gmail.com. Those requesting additional funds from PTO will need to plan to attend the next PTO meeting.
Teachers are responsible for arranging transportation to and from field trips. Bus Request forms are located in the office.
Carnval Prizes Input Needed
Hello, Deerfield Teachers and Staff -
I have a few ideas for the school carnival I'd like to share and get input on.
First of all, one of the prizes we'd like the kids to have the opportunity to earn, is to play a game of Pie in the Face with a teacher or staff member of their choice during the carnival. Of course for this we will need a few saintly volunteers who would be available for all or part of the time that the carnival is in progress (Saturday, September 28th from 3-6 pm). If you could contact me and let me know if you would be available and a willing participant I would greatly appreciate it! Also, if you can help spread the word that this will be something the kids can earn, I think it will help build excitement/interest.
Second, we're going to try ticket redemption this year, so the kids can earn tickets from playing the games and then spend them on prizes. I've been brainstorming ideas for prizes that don't cost us anything extra so we have more to offer along with the "typical" carnival prizes. I'm in the process of putting together a prize wheel with donations from local businesses where the kids can win things like swim passes, Eileen's cookies, etc. I would also like to give the kids the opportunity to buy “gold slip” style prizes with tickets earned from playing games. I want to make sure these are not too disruptive in class, but still something the kids would like to earn. I have gotten some input from other friends and parents and here's a list of ideas we've come up with:
Wear a Hat to School
Stinky Feet – Take Shoes Off in Class
Bring a Stuffy for the Day
Use Markers/Pen for the Day
Sit by a Friend for the Day
Sit at the Teacher's Desk/Table for the Day
Chew Gum in Class for the Day
Special Seat for the Day (Wobbly Stool/Teacher's Chair/Etc)
However! I want to get teacher input on this. Not something I want to offer unless teachers are on board with the kids being able to earn these prizes. I sincerely appreciate your time and look forward to hearing from you.

EMPOWER Session
Our first EMPOWER session is coming up on September 17, 2019, and we are extending the invitation to all preK-12 Ci3T Leadership Team members, teachers, administrators, related service providers, paraprofessionals, and parents interested in learning more about proactive, systematic methods of looking for and supporting students who might require additional assistance beyond Tier 1 to experience success in schools.

Leadership Academy
As an overview, the Leadership Academy is a one-year program designed to provide opportunities for practical training within a framework of effective leadership development. During this program, the group will meet 4-5 times during the school year from 4:15pm - 5:30pm (dates TBD). Selected candidates will work toward acquisition of leadership competencies including developing shared vision/mission, use of data to improve teaching and learning, implementation of effective instruction and consistent curriculum, development of teacher leaders, collaboration and communication within a school community and the management and operation of a school facility.
Numerous studies show an empirical link between school leadership and student achievement. Leadership is the crucial element in combining the required variables and creating conditions for optimal teacher and student performance. Our Leadership Academy participants will work to develop key principal leadership skills that emphasizes effective instruction and fosters academic and personal student growth.
Candidates will be selected from a pool of Lawrence Public School staff who:
· Have at least three years successful teaching experience
· Completed or are enrolled to earn their administrative licensure
Approximately 20-25 candidates per year will be selected to participate in the program. These educators are required to attend 4-5 sessions and will spend time shadowing selected administrators, as well as providing building coverage for principals (while they attend various PD and district activities).

The application period will close September 23, 2019 and be followed by a selection process. After reviewing the finalists’ application materials and principal recommendation, invitations will be offered to educators by September 27th.
Leadership Academy sessions will begin in October.

All sites have confirmed dates, times, and locations. Flu shots are free for all employees, their spouses and their children (5 years old and older). This is a free benefit whether you have district insurance or not. We have added evening appointments at ESC on October 10 from 3:00 to 7:00 if you would like to come with your family.

School Website Minimum Expectations
The district expects all certified teachers to have an "About Teacher" welcome page on their school's website with basic contact information. The About Teacher page is an easy-to-complete template. Go to the Deerfield Website. Sign in with your district username and password. Click on Site Manager. You will see only those sections assigned to you on the left side of the screen. Here's how to complete the page.
For your information, below are the district’s minimum expectations for staff pages:
- “About Me” tab includes a prefix (Dr., Miss, Mr., Mrs., Ms. and/or preferred pronoun(s))
- Teacher’s name
- Brief professional biography
- Photo (photos should be a standard head shot, such as a school yearbook photo).
This space should be left blank if a teacher prefers not to display a photo of his/her/their likeness.
- “Details” tab includes
- school email address
- school main phone number (and/or teacher extension)
- (optional) degrees and certifications.
