Principal News

Principal Message
Since the New Year, we have noticed a considerable number of students who are arriving late to school. These tardy arrivals impact your child's instructional day, as we begin our day promptly at 8:05 a.m. It is important for your child to be in his/her classroom when the bells rings so that he/she can be prepared to start the day without having to miss academics.
An on-time arrival to school is an important priority for students to learn at this young age so that they develop into adults who arrive on-time to meetings/events.
I ask that you please help with this issue when leaving home. Here are some tips to consider:
* See if your child qualifies to ride the bus.
* Leave your home 5 minutes earlier. This small adjustment makes a huge difference.
* Have your child wake 5 minutes earlier.
* Expect your child to have his/her backpacks ready to leave home the night before.
Again, I thank you for your efforts related to this important school issue.
ASE students will Learn...Inspire...and Lead...We are ASE!
Sullivan Elementary Named Fittest School at Simon Spine 5K Challenge
On Sunday, February 2, 2025, Sullivan Elementary took home the top honor at the Simon Spine 5K Fittest Challenge, a featured event in the USA Fit Marathon, Fort Bend KIA Half Marathon, and Simon Spine 5K. Competing against schools across the district, Sullivan was crowned the Fittest School for the 2024-2025 school year!
In addition to earning this prestigious title, ASE received a check for over $900, which will go toward enhancing PE equipment for our students.
A huge thank you to our students, staff, and families for showing up, giving their best effort, and making this victory possible. Let’s keep the momentum going—join us next year as we continue to support this incredible event!
100th day of school
Kindergarten and 1st grade students will celebrate the 100th day of school on Monday, February 3rd. Students are permitted to dress in "old" attire and there will be some school activities in class related to this milestone day.
Counselors and CCC week
This week we honor the extraordinary work of our counselors, Ms. Omanukwue and Ms. Orji, along with our campus compliance coordinator, Ms. Browning. Please help recognize the work they do every day with students. Our counselors' guidance and support is critical to the development of our students and our CCC supports all special education and state testing operations. We are the fortunate recipients of the efforts of these three women!
No Parent Lunch Visits
On February 12th and 13th we will not permit parental visitors at lunch time due to Valentines's parties and the half day for students. We thank you for your understanding.
Bus Drivers
February is nationally recognized as Love the Bus month. Schools and communities across the country come together to honor the iconic yellow school bus and the dedicated drivers who transport millions of students safely each day. This month-long celebration provides a wonderful opportunity to express gratitude and raise awareness about the importance of school transportation. Bus drivers are the unsung heroes of schools - making sure kids get to school on time and safely back home at the end of the day.
By highlighting the vital role of school buses, Love the Bus month reminds us all of the essential service they provide, ensuring that every child can access education with safety and reliability.
We thank you for appreciating your child's bus driver this month.

Counselor Corner
February 3rd-7th
February is about showing kindness. Supporting and encouraging kindness starts with creating a positive environment at home. Parents can model kindness by showing empathy in their daily interactions, whether it’s helping a neighbor or simply offering a kind word to a family member. Children are quick to imitate the behavior they see, so it’s important for parents to lead by example and having fun doing so.
SciNow Event
SciNow's annual Math & Science Night will be at Dulles High School on February 7th, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM. All are welcome to attend this exciting event with your child if time permits.

Rainy Day Dismissal
Rainy Day dismissal pertains only to those families whose children walk or ride a bike to school each day. Each parent of a child who walks or rides a bike is required to notify the homeroom teacher of a Rainy-Day alternative plan. At 2:45 p.m. a Blackboard Connect notice will be sent to parents informing the community of a Rainy-Day Dismissal. Walkers/bikers will either become a car rider or remain a walker. If your child remains a walker, he/she will meet you at the normal pick-up location.
Parents are not permitted to come to the building doors or encroach on the campus sidewalks to get their children in the rain. This can lead to an unsafe dismissal. All other students going home on buses, in cars, or daycare vans will not have a change in dismissal.
