5 STAR ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE
Attendance is SO important for student success. Every day a student is absent is a missed learning opportunity for your child to build foundational knowledge in order to understand more difficult material later. Students who miss more than 18 days of school are less proficient in reading, writing and math compared to their peers with good attendance.
To encourage student attendance, we have started a 5 Star Attendance Challenge! Each day a classroom has 100% attendance, they will get a star. When the classroom gets five stars, the class wins either a pizza party or an ice cream party on that 5th day!
CURRENT CHALLENGE STANDINGS (As of October 30, 2024):
Mrs. Schneider's 3rd Grade Class: ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
Mrs. Mims' 6th Grade Class:⭐ ⭐
Miss Hiatt's 4th Grade Class:⭐ ⭐
Mrs. Fletcher's 1st Grade Class:⭐
All Other Classes: 0 stars
Help get your child make it to school to help your child's class complete the challenge and win a party...or parties!
KINSHIP NAVIGATOR PROGRAM
YOU ARE INVITED ON NOVEMBER 7TH AT 5:00 PM
Nearly a quarter million children in Ohio, just over 9% of the children in the state, live in homes headed by relatives other than a parent, such as a grandparent, aunt, etc.
In Lucas County, the Area Office on Aging (AOoA) Kinship Navigator Program provides services and supports to over 1,300 families with access to:
- Information & referrals
- Ongoing assistance
- Community resources
- Educational workshops
- Newsletters & E-Blasts
- Kinship club meetings
- Special events
- Support groups
- Child Traumatic Stress Workshop
- Holiday meal assistance
- And More!
To receive services from the Kinship Navigator Program, kin caregivers do not need to meet any requirements based on age, income, or legal or familial relationship to the child. They must be residents of Lucas County, raising a child aged 18 or younger, and the birth parent of the child cannot be living with the child or kin caregiver.
Marsha Rose, LSW, Supervisor of the Kinship Navigator Program, will be at Madison Avenue School of Arts on Thursday, November 7th at 5 pm to share more information on the many resources available to kinship caregivers.
This program will be open to the general public as well as Madison Avenue School of Arts’ families. Attendees will be entered into a drawing for a gift card at the end of the presentation.
HARVEST MARKET NOW OPEN!
The Harvest Market School Pantry Program is now available for the Madison Avenue School of Arts’ community! The Harvest Market is designed to address child hunger with greater flexibility and choice. This program aims to provide emergency food assistance to children and families directly at Madison Avenue School of Arts. The School Pantry Program offers a more empowering choice model, ensuring families receive the support they need without having to leave the school environment. Our goal remains steadfast: to alleviate hunger and support the well-being of children across Northwest Ohio.
If you are interested in shopping at our Newly Opened Harvest Market, please contact the school for an appointment at 419-259-4000. Remember a visit to the Harvest Market is completely confidential and located within an area that is private in the school building.
A SPOOKTACULAR SUCCESS!
We had so much fun on the last day of school in October. Our Harvest parties featured a parade around the school and later in the evening we welcomed everyone back with their families for Trunk or Treat. We loved seeing our students and their families enjoying themselves together and all of the kids looking amazing in their costumes! The weather was perfect for a leisurely stroll from car to car to collect candy. A huge thank you to our staff for organizing this fun for all ages event!
SAVE THE DATE!
WINTER EXTRAVAGANZA PERFORMANCE

Long-sleeved shirts may be worn UNDER a short-sleeved polo in cold weather. No hoods are allowed. Hats, bandanas, coats, etc. of any type are not to be worn inside during the school day.

A FINAL NOTE FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT
Dear Families,
The holidays are fast approaching so as we prepare to celebrate I have you, your children, and our teachers in my heart and thoughts. No matter what your circumstances are this season remember this: who you are with is always more important than where you are. Hug your children, read a holiday story to them, tuck them in with a kiss, These are the gifts they will have forever.
My best wishes for your joy and peace,
Darlene M. Burke, Board President
