Message from the Principal
As we kick off Quarter 4, there are so many great things going on at the high school. DECA students are hard at work preparing spaces to launch their school store enterprise.
Thank you to Facilities and Maintenance staff for installing the new softball scoreboard in time for the spring season!
Great work to staff working with Mass Maritime faculty to strengthen our curriculum as we work to prepare for the Early College application process to certify a program. These six educators plus administrators from both schools are meeting regularly as part of the planning grant process.
Furniture and computers have been ordered for our new cybersecurity range/computer science lab space as part of the Computer Science Information Pathway that we have applied for through DESE. With grant funding, our teachers are training to roll out two new classes in the fall and this space will be up and running for 25-26!
Have you saved the date for Spongebob the Musical May 9 and 10? See the ad below for information on show times and ticket sales.
Junior prom tickets will be on sale after April Vacation. Stay tuned for more information! Juniors will be invited to an informational meeting soon.
On Friday, April 18, BPS will be hosting our "Purple Up" Celebration of Military Children. This event is open to all Bourne Public Schools students whose parents/guardians are active military members. There will be a speaking program followed by a reception, with all PreK-12 military connected students in attendance. If you cannot attend, we will ensure that your student is escorted to BIS by school staff. If your family is an active military family and you did not receive an invitation from Dr. Zhou for this event, please email Assistant Superintendent Christine Borning at cborning@bourneps.org so we can be sure to share all information with you.
Yours in Education,
Dr. Maguire

Poetry Slam Success
We had a fantastic Poetry Slam on Tuesday. Visiting schools were Monomoy, Sturgis East, Sturgis West, and Wareham.
Two Bourne High School students (12th grader Claire Koosa & 10th grader Bridget Curran) placed as finalists. 12th grader Elise Dean also had a finalist-qualifying score (2023 Champion).
The champion this year was Keaghan Johnson of Sturgis West -- a 2023 finalist from BMS. Runner-up was Amelia Stoots (Sturgis West, was also the 2024 runner-up). The other finalists were from Monomoy Regional High School.
The students have raved all week about the quality of the guest poet's workshops. A shy sophomore came up to me yesterday and said "I had never done anything like that before, but I really felt like I belonged there." This is why we do this!
Special thank you to Mr. LeRoy and Ms. Sylvia for organizing the Poetry Slam!
Academics in Action
Chemistry students bonded with beads, making friendship bracelets and/or keychains with what they’ve learned about writing chemical formulas for ionic compounds, molecular compounds, and even acids!
The Engineering students enjoyed their pneumatic maze and began building catapults. Our Aeronautical Engineering Senior Interns even flew the planes they built from scratch this week!
Students in Algebra II are solving multiple functions and sharing their work with the class.
Students in Sports & Entertainment Marketing are researching information to debate the Pros and Cons of online sports betting.
Students in World History are engaged in group work on Nationalism in Italy and Germany, including study of the rise an fall of Napoleon.
Junior John Barmashi is working during his music Independent Study in the recording studio, amplifying students' musical talents while developing skills in music technology.
Attendance Matters
Did you Know?
- A student who missed 10 days of school in a year is 25% less likely to enroll in college.
- Consistent attendance is crucial for learning, building positive relationships, and developing essential life skills.
- Students who attend school regularly are more likely to graduate and find employment.
- A high school graduate makes approximately $1 million more than a dropout over a lifetime.
