Keep an eye out for future information and feedback loops in this refinement process!
Empowered Learning Supports
During these difficult times, empathy is so important. George Couros offers some powerful reflective questions.
“Scattered.” This word fits so well in 2021. It might describe our physical state or our mental/emotional state. This blog from Jennifer Gonzalez helps think through how to build culture and connection in classrooms when learners are scattered.

SEL & Equity
Many students face barriers to healthy social, emotional, and academic development, but a range of strategies can help overcome those barriers.

Compassion Fatigue
As teachers and staff continue to support the needs of students, it is important to be aware of the possibility of compassion fatigue. Compassion fatigue, or vicarious/secondary trauma, is much more serious than general burnout: it’s a caregiver experiencing trauma after witnessing another’s physical, emotional, or spiritual pain. Concept pioneers McCann and Pearlman define it as “a process through which the caregiving individual’s own internal experience becomes transformed through engagement with the client’s trauma.”
What can you do to combat compassion fatigue?
- Be kind to yourself: remind yourself that suffering with compassion fatigue indicates that you listen well, open your heart, and care so much for your students in need.
- Journal your thoughts: journaling helps by getting troubling thoughts out of your head and onto the paper.
- Don't face this alone: others may be experiencing the same feelings, and together you can find support.
- Seek positive influences: stay away from negative thoughts and situations.
