FOR VACATION ABSENCES: The Mint Valley Elementary secretaries have a special form for families to use when they take their children out of school for vacation. It must be pre-approved (and with sufficient notice), by the principal and teacher so that homework is available and the absence has the least impact on the student's learning.
with Mrs. Hendrickson & Mrs. Allis
We have finished all 10 Zones of Regulation lessons! In lesson 9 students learned about impulses and using the steps “Stop, Opt and Go” to encourage them to think of their options in situations instead of acting on their impulses. In lesson 10, students learned about the Zones Pathway. The attached handouts will give more information about both.
TRAIT OF THE MONTH
Mrs. Allis' Corner
This month, Mrs. Allis has been reading a book with our K-2 students about the importance of thinking about the words they use. She is teaching the children the power of words with Taste Your Words by Bonnie Clark.
In the book, Amera's having a bad day. Her best friend ruined her cupcake and they both said mean things. When she brings her bad mood home with her, her mom tells her to "taste her words." Amera's mean words taste like rotten eggs, spoiled milk, and lemons! As Amera realizes that her mean words make her feel bad and others feel worse, she starts saying the kindest, sweetest words she can find. A wonderful resource for parents who want to teach their kids to think before they speak.
Volunteers Needed!
WE NEED YOU—BE A PART OF SOMETHING BIGGER AT LONGVIEW PUBLIC SCHOOLS!
At Longview Public Schools, our volunteers are everyday heroes—and we’re so thankful for each of you who reads with students, supports classroom activities, or joins in on field trips. You’re not just helping—you’re building brighter futures.
The truth is simple: when families and community members get involved, students thrive. Studies show that when adults stay connected to school life, kids do better—academically, socially, and emotionally.
That’s why we’re inviting you to join in. Whether you have an hour a week or a day each month, your time and presence make a real difference.
Ready to lend a hand? Visit longviewschools.com or visit your school to get started.
Let’s build something great—together.
