A Note from our Nurse
Help Alaskans
The term “Influenza” came from when medieval Italians believed the illness was brought on by the influence of stars. Almost sounds romantic. Medical providers today are the ones that continue to try to influence the public at large to get their annual flu shot. More than ever, I would like you to consider getting a flu shot during our Covid Pandemic.
Our hospitals are rationing care. Medical and nursing staff became care providers to care for all people who come seeking their help. I am not envious of the decisions that rationing hospital ERs have to make. For example, giving priority to patients who have the best chance of surviving their serious health problems. Alaska relies on a tenuous network of small community clinics, mid-level regional centers, and larger hospitals in major cities. But when those hospitals fill up, the entire network begins to fold. Rural residents are worried not just about a lack of care for Covid but also about surgeries, cancer treatments, accidents and other health emergencies.
We can help our healthcare systems - please consider a flu shot.
Thank You,
Yolanda Ifflander RN, BSN
