OHS Weekly Wag 🐾

Sixth-grade students took on the role of historians in their Investigating History lesson as they explored relics from the Kingdom of Kush and Ancient Nubia. By examining artwork and artifacts, they uncovered clues about life and religion in Ancient Egypt and Nubia, deepening their understanding of this rich and complex history. Students also listened to historians and engaged in thoughtful discussion, hypothesizing why Ancient Nubians haven’t always received the historical attention they deserve. This critical thinking exercise helped students connect the past with modern-day perspectives on history.

Fifth-grade students are making a difference through service learning projects during Flex Block! This group has taken on the task of beautifying the school, and with the improving weather, they got outside to clean up the walking path to the vernal pool. Their efforts will help prepare this important outdoor space for upcoming science lessons this spring. Great job, 5th graders!

4th-grade students have been enjoying some exciting activities during enrichment and specialist time this week! In science enrichment with Mr. Squire, they designed their own mini windmills and tested how much power they could generate. 🌬️ In library, students gathered in book groups with Mrs. Mirabito to dive into their latest reading adventures. 📚 Finally, in gym class with Mr. C, they had a blast playing pickleball! 🏓 What a week of learning, teamwork, and fun!

As part of Kindness Week, we’re celebrating Acts of Service Day on Wednesday with a fun way to give back! Each grade level is competing to see who can bring in the most donations for our OHS Feinstein Junior Scholar Pantry, which helps support local families in need.
